Job Description


Resolve to Save Lives (RTSL) is a US based nonprofit organization partnering with countries, communities, and organizations to prevent 100 million deaths from cardiovascular disease and make the world safer from epidemics. RTSL is committed to saving as many lives as possible by prioritizing partnerships with government, national, and local organizations in low- and middle-income countries to co-create, advocate for, and scale up activities in heart disease prevention and epidemic preparedness.

RTSL has established a branch office in Ethiopia with the goal of furthering its non-profit mission in Ethiopia. RTSL has been working with the Ethiopia Public Health Institute and the Ethiopia Federal Ministry of Health, providing broad-based technical assistance and support across different program areas. In Ethiopia, the Prevent Epidemics program focuses on helping the country improve its capacity across some of the International Health Regulations (IHR) technical areas and seeks to strengthen collection and utilization of timely information related to public health emergency detection, notification, and response to improve the system’s performance in early detection and response.

Position Purpose:

The Senior Finance Manager plays a crucial role in managing all finance and accounting activities relating to RTSL Ethiopia. This includes ensuring streamlined and rigorous day-to-day financial operations, budgeting, grant management and financial controls, and timely financial reporting. This is a full-time, remote role based in Addis Ababa. The position primarily reports to the Country Director, Ethiopia with a dotted line into the RTSL Global Finance Manager. This position manages an Associate level role within the Finance and Administration team.

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

1.1. Accounting

  • Manage day-to-day financial operations for the RTSL Ethiopia office.
  • Manage accounts payable including reviewing for appropriate signatories and coding.
  • Manage accounts receivable.
  • Facilitate opening and maintenance of any needed bank accounts.
  • Reconcile inter-company transfers, cash, bank, and credit cards.
  • Responsible for data entry of expenses into the accounting system.
  • Processing fund requests from grants managers/programs to headquarters.
  • Manage grants accounting.
  • Monitor and maintain petty cash and bank balances to ensure sufficient funds are available.

1.2. Reporting

  • Prepare, analyze, and distribute monthly and annual financial statements in a timely manner.
  • Prepare financial reports for donors based on their requirements.
  • Ensure accounting practices and financial reporting are in compliance with applicable accounting standards (IFRS) and government regulations.
  • Completion of tax reporting requirements, as needed.
  • Maintain compliance records, such as audit reports and account statements.

1.3. Budgeting and Financial Controls

  • Monitor monthly actual to budget variances. Update the management team on a monthly basis of any financial and budget concerns.
  • In coordination with the global finance team, lead the annual audit process, ensuring local and global regulations are met.
  • Oversee and lead annual budgeting process in collaboration with the Country Director.
  • Administer and review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes; and keep senior leadership team abreast of the organization’s financial status.
  • Manage organizational cash flow and forecasting.
  • Ensure that the contract billing and collection schedule is adhered to.
  • Establish review processes to continuously improve financial accounting practices, and related policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with the local operations manager to update, implement, and provide guidance on finance related business policies.
  • Effectively communicate and present critical financial matters to the Country
  • Director and Contracts Officers at RTSL.
  • Oversee other finance related responsibilities as assigned.

Job Requirements

Experience:

  • Minimum eight (8) years of overall experience in finance and minimum five years working with a nonprofit organization in finance.
  • Prior experience working in non-profit global development sector preferred.

Skills and abilities:

  • Strong understanding of general finance and budgeting and ability to apply concepts.
  • Ability to take proactive steps to initiate and carry out tasks related to financial management, grant administration, and internal controls.
  • Capacity to ensure compliance to policies and procedures pertaining to standard financial, grant, and internal control practices.
  • Strong leadership skills in inspiring, motivating, and guiding team members toward common goals through clear expectations, feedback, and fostering a positive work environment.
  • Ability to build the capacity of subordinates and peers through skillful communication, mentoring, collaboration, and a dedicated focus on promoting ongoing learning and development.
  • Advanced skills in financial management, budget management and grant management.
  • Advanced level of English preferred.
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to details.
  • Ability to set priorities and problem-solve.
  • Excellent communication and relationship building skills with an ability to work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of Resolve to Save Lives, Inc..
  • Collaborative, dedicated team player with excellent communication, organizational and coordination skills.
  • Computer skills: Excel, Word, Outlook, cloud software

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Finance, business administration, economics, accounting, etc.)
  • This position is open only to Ethiopian nationals.
