Established in 1992, Horn of Africa Voluntary Youth Committee (HAVOYOCO) is a dynamic regional non-governmental, non-profit organization that operates in both Ethiopia and Somaliland. With its operations in Ethiopia commencing in 2007, HAVOYOCO has strategically set up a Liaison Office in Addis Ababa, a Country Office in Jigjiga, Somali Regional State (SRS), and a Project Office in Dire-Dawa. Since its establishment in Ethiopia, the organization has been actively involved in the implementation of numerous developmental and humanitarian projects.

 

About the Project:

Led by FHI 360, HAVOYOCO will implement the Feed the Future Ethiopia Community Nutrition Activity in the districts of Kebribayah, Jigjiga/Shabeley, Filtu, Maeso, Hudet, and Moyale in the Somali Regional State. The project aims to improve the nutritional status of women and children through increased and sustained improvements in nine high-impact behaviors that have proven highly effective in reducing malnutrition. These objectives will be realized through enhanced individual and community agency and demand for services, improved access to quality nutrition services at the community level, and improved capacity and coordination among nutrition stakeholders across sectors.

 

Job Description:

  • Facilitate planned SBC and community engagement trainings in target kebeles and woredas.
  • Disseminate and report SBC materials.
  • Support with pretesting of SBC materials.
  • Facilitate the nutrition catchment-based mentorship assessments at PHCU level.
  • Ensure the availability of necessary nutrition commodities and supplies (VAS, IFA, deworming, etc.) at each respective woreda and facility.
  • Facilitate food and nutrition assessments and surveys in target woredas and kebeles.
  • Conduct participatory exercises to develop action plans to address multisectoral coordination gaps in target woredas.
  • Provide logistical and other support for woreda-level advocacy meetings on the establishment of FN structures and manpower in food and nutrition strategy (FNS) implementing sectors at woreda and kebele levels.
  • Facilitate multisectoral coordination activities in the target woreda.
  • Facilitate the compilation and sharing of monthly and quarterly reporting formats at all levels.
  • Work with community, kebele, and woreda-level stakeholders and the LIP MEL/Nutrition Coordinator to document activities and report according to standard procedures.
  • Support LME activities, including data collection, analysis, and reporting. Coordinate and conduct DQAs at the woreda level and health facilities. Support HMIS and eCHIS-related training in the target woreda.
  • Facilitate Gender, Youth, and Social Inclusion (GYSI) activities, including mapping and collaborating with youth networks.
  • Ensure the implementation of the Community Nutrition GYSI integration strategy.
  • Represent Community Nutrition at regional, zonal, and woreda forums.
  • Provide technical assistance to woreda health offices as needed.
  • Document and update the woreda profile.

About You

Job Requirements: 

 

Qualification: Minimum BSc degree in Public Health, Nutrition, or related fields.

 

Experience: A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in health, nutrition, or community development projects, preferably at the woreda level.

 

Skills Required:

  • Experience in community nutrition.
  • Certification in health and nutrition training.
  • Creativity and the ability to work with limited resources.

 

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and understanding of community nutrition.
  • Experience facilitating community mobilization, coordination, and engagement.
  • Proven Motorbike driving skills and driving license.
