Job Description


Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine. Samaritan’s Purse is privileged to be part of the humanitarian effort in Ethiopia and legally registered as foreign charity to work in Ethiopia since October 08, 2018.

Open Position: 20 (Ten Asayita and Ten Berhale)

Duration of contract: June 30, 2024.

Job Summary

Samaritan’s Purse (SP), with funding from the World Food Program (WFP), provides monthly food rations to households and individuals living in up to three refugee camps in the Afar region, specifically Asayita and Berhale. To ensure accountability, the GDT controller is responsible for checking beneficiary lists and confirming that the correct ration sizes, as determined by WFP and UNHCR, are distributed. This verification process takes place on the UNHCR’s GDT database and also ensures that beneficiaries receive the appropriate ration sizes and check quality assistance. During the scoping process, the GDT controller performs a check to ensure that the correct ration size is scoped.

Key Responsibilities

  • · Before collecting the rations, verify the beneficiary status and household size at the collection window.
  • · ensures that the scoped ration size aligns accurately with the appropriate beneficiary size
  • · ensure effective collaboration and maintain control over the scoping process and scoopers and work together closely
  • · safeguard against the distribution of spoiled or unsafe food items
  • · ensure that the distribution area is clean, organized, and properly equipped.
  • · regularly checking and maintaining the scoping materials, as well as ensuring that the food items are enough and stored in a clean and hygienic manner
  • · Operate UNHCR’s GDT beneficiary list system to verify eligible households to receive food assistance on a monthly basis during food distributions
  • · ensure a smooth and efficient distribution process, prioritize crowd management and minimize unnecessary gatherings at the collection window
  • · Interface with beneficiary households to delivery quality assistance with a good attitude
  • · Ensure high-quality service for beneficiaries throughout their entire journey, from admission to exit, and conduct quality checks at every stage.
  • · Anticipate problems to share with line manager and troubleshoot solutions
  • · Assess beneficiary household identification to verify eligibility to receive assistance
  • · Verify households through UNHCR’s biometric information system
  • · Performing all other tasks and responsibilities as requested by the GFD Program Manager, Camp/distribution supervisor/Officer or IT & reporting officer with a generous and serving spirit
  • · Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Education / Experience Needed

  • · Diploma/ Bachelor Degree from university or accredited institution, in Computer Science, Information Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, and other computer related equivalent subjects
  • · For Bachelor Degree – Minimum one-year work experience, and for Diploma holder, minimum three-years’ work experience in INGO’s or UN agencies
  • · Basic Information Management skills
  • · Experience in digital data collection and management is desirable

LANGUAGE

  • · Amharic and English (spoken and written required)
  • · Afar regional languages strongly desired

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral diagram, or schedule form.
