Job Description


Samaritan’s Purse is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world. Since 1970, Samaritan’s Purse has helped meet needs of people who are victims of war, poverty, natural disasters, disease, and famine. Samaritan’s Purse is privileged to be part of the humanitarian effort in Ethiopia and legally registered as foreign charity to work in Ethiopia since October 08, 2018.

Duration of Contract: December 31, 2024.

Job Summary

Samaritan’s Purse (SP) is currently implementing WASH Program in Erer zone Mulukie and Lagahedie woreda, Somalia region with the objective of reducing the incidence of diarrheal and other related diseases among the most vulnerable populations. The WASH officer is expected to assist the project manager in regular planning, implementation, regular monitoring of the project as well as building relationships.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as main technical focal point for activities related to troubleshooting, operation and maintenance, installation designing of the solar pump and system, Generator of water supply systems of Mulukie and Lagahedie Woreda, Somalia Region.
  • Ensures that all water points sites are functional and constructed according to the BOQ and Materials break down.
  • Prepare detail specification including item description, for Solar system, water point, and Animal trough construction.
  • Identify & ensure the procurement of minor tools required towards operation & maintenance of the water supply systems including.
  • Prepare & put in place monitoring plan for the operation & servicing of the water scheme.
  • Conduct the water quality test after the water scheme rehabilitated and able to conduct both the Bacteriological and support the chemical test with Institution.
  • Participate on WASH hardware supervision and follow up.
  • Participate on Weekly and Monthly report of the field activities.
  • Organize and deliver Training on operation and Maintenance of hand pump for water Mechanics or Technician.
  • Provide necessary technical support to WUC, operators and technician of the water supply schemes.
  • Prepare monthly progress reports and keep the supervisor informed of the maintenance and/or installation of water supply scheme with hand pump;
  • Assume other duties assigned by supervisor

Job Requirements

Education / Experience Needed

  • BA in Water Engineering, Public Health Environmental Engineering or equivalent Degree in related filed
  • Minimum three years of experience in WASH
  • Previous INGO work experience preferred

LANGUAGE :  Fluency in English, Amharic or Somalia language required
