Job Description


Job Summary

The Warehouse Manager is fully responsible for delivering operational excellence within the distribution center having full accountability for ensuring costs, internal metrics, safety and customer delivery measures required within the distribution center and deliver an exceptional level of service to customers. The Warehouse Manager is also responsible for the delivery of continuous improvement program including but not limited to; reducing cost, improvement in inventory management system & protocols, process including material management virtual modalities like ERP, improving service and building team capabilities. Strategically manage warehouse in compliance with company’s policies and vision. That is, an integrated inventory management, through identification of relationships as part of the Supply Chain and Logistics department with other business units (Retails operation and Agro- processing units) and other functional areas/ departments.

Job Requirements

Managerial/supervisory responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate must be a strong ‘people’ manager, with experience in warehousing, logistics and distribution, who can initiate and lead change management process
  • Implement performance management processes, collaborating with HR to address issues such as disciplinary grievances, absence management etc.
  • Communicate effectively at all times – holding regular organized meetings, as well as ad hoc “catch ups” with your teams to help them understand their key priorities
  • Lead, coach and motivate the distribution team to deliver exceptional customer service
  • Ensure regular performance reviews are undertaken with colleagues within the distribution center
  • Escalate any performance issues rapidly and sensitively
  • Work with the HR department to recruit for new positions Person Specification
  • The current team is a bit diverse & includes some temporary resource, which requires effective management during the operational peaks
  • Strong ability to motivate, lead and challenge existing process is key for this role.
  • Experience in working through a change management process within an organization, as the organization is undergoing significant change and growth plans.
  • Highly driven and should demonstrate ability to work in a fast paced, energy and ambition, with the skills and experience to lead the team and operations successfully.
  • Deputation for the Supply Chain & Logistics Manager will also be a key element of this role as well as working closely and cohesively with the Retails Operation Manager and other key departments and colleagues.

Position duties or responsibilities:

  • Accountable for ensuring company operating metrics within the distribution center are delivered and correctly reported,
  • Apply the basics of Inventory management principles like FIFO, LIFO, EOQ & ROQ in line with the necessity & prevalence accordingly
  • Ensure distribution center costs are managed to budget,
  • Ensure personal and collective actions taken within the distribution center are in the best interest of the Company as a whole
  • Ensure the distribution center complies with internal audit processes and stock take procedures
  • Improve the operational effectiveness and efficiency of the distribution center and develop a culture of lean operational excellence
  • Ensure that company policy and procedures are adhered to
  • Ensure compliance with all systems, procedures and processes
  • Ensure compliance to FMHACA health, safety, environmental and quality procedures
  • Represent the Company and values of the business and portray a professional and business like image to all customers, potential customers and other people met in the course of work
  • Negotiate and manage the relationships with all carriers and warehouse equipment suppliers, ensure that the service levels are optimal, whilst obtaining excellent price levels
  • Ensure optimum layout of the distribution center along with effective logistical strategy to achieve the highest rates of picking & accuracy and make the best use of the space available
  • Lead the continuous review and development of warehouse and transport standard operating procedures to improve efficiency and reduce errors
  • Work closely with the Retails Supply Chain & Logistics Managers to ensure seamless integration with the transport operation; improving service and reducing costs amongst own drivers and contractors
  • Undertake contingency planning & team Management
  • Ensure EOQ (Economic Order Quantity) is achieved & carrying cost is optimized with an uninterrupted supply of goods & services is achieved amongst the user departments, & always make sure that there is re-order level stock present on the shelf when placing the next one for processing by due consideration to processing lead time
  • Ensure the distribution center operates safely and that all colleagues are aware of their personal obligations and commitment to being serious about safety
  • Promote teamwork and collaboration across the distribution center

  • Experience leading a senior team and developing talent for the future
  • Knowledge of appropriate legislation and its impact on operations
  • Robust understanding/knowledge of logistics and warehousing methods and techniques
  • Experience of system implementation and process improvement would be highly advantageous

Requirements

Skills Required:

  • Excellent computer skills required with proficiency in Windows, Word, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint, Outlook and ERP preferably
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English are required Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to communicate with members of the organization at all levels
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize and possess strong time-management skills
  • Ability to focus on executing priorities as directed by management
  • Knowledge of Warehousing methods and procedures, product characteristics, reporting procedures, departmental procedures and policies; accounting principles, and controlling
  • Knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures and processes
  • Some one with the ability to multi-task, dispensable, works with transparency & integrity,
  • Reduce errors, (little or no supervision required)
  • Always respect deadlines for work & reporting to supervisors
  • Punctual, self disciplined, loyal & trustworthy always

Educational & Experience Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with a major course study in Purchasing and Supplies Management, Business Administration, Accounting or Supply Chain & Logistics is generally preferred
  • At least 6+ years of experience as a warehouse manger, supplies management in agro- processing and retail operations industries in a warehouse managerial role is preferred
  • Experience and education may be substituted for one another
