Job Description

  • 1. Identify and analyse the multiple identities and how these affect access to and uptake of SRH services for particularly the marginalized/minoritized youth.
    2. Understand and articulate the social, cultural, religion/belief, political, economic, and institutional drivers of this exclusion and why marginalized young people are prevented from realizing their sexual and reproductive health.
    3. Identify enablers and obstacles of meaningful youth engagement in inclusive access to SRH among minoritized youth.
    4. Identify health financing frameworks and the key power relations and influences, dynamics and trends in health systems, structures and processes related to SRH for minoritized youth in Ethiopia? What are existing opportunities in Ethiopia for Make Way?

  • 1) Company/individual profile or CV including 2 references (clients) and 2 samples of similar work recently done
    2) Motivation, track record & qualifications for the assignment
    3) A comprehensive proposal outlining the proposed methodologies and rationale, choice and design of data collection tools, timelines, roles and responsibilities of personnel involved
    4) Sign language capabilities during the data collection process
    5) Financial proposal (daily fee, travel costs, snacks for participants, etc) with clear budget lines

Requirements

Desired Skills and Experience

  • We expect the consultancy team to have the following:
    1)Strong understanding of gender and social inclusion approaches, particularly concerning youth with (compounded vulnerabilities) such as young sex workers, adolescents with a disability, out-of-school youth, teenage mothers and internally displaced young people
    2)Knowledge on the current SRH situation of youth in Ethiopia especially for those with multiple, compounded vulnerabilities
    3)Knowledge on health financing
    4)Expertise and track record on methodologies and conducting baseline studies in the scope of a lobby and advocacy programme
    5)Demonstrated ability to work with minoritized population with compounded vulnerabilities and understanding of safeguarding principles in research
    6)Experience with assignments/projects related to policy analysis, capacity strengthening, civic space, gender, inclusion & participation (the applicant has experience with at least 2 of the mentioned expertise above)
    7)Experience in working with project teams, from diverse backgrounds
    8)Experience with requests for ethical clearance is highly appreciated

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • Ability to build up a good relationship in short period of time with stakeholders and youth with compounded vulnerability
  • Good writing and editing skills (proven by track record).
  • Ability to design appropriate research methodology and use of monitoring and evaluation frameworks.
  • Facilitating actor mapping/power analysis is a plus.
  • Understanding of the policy framework for ‘Strengthening Civil Society’ of the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the grant instrument on the SRH Partnership Fund is a plus.
