Job Description


The Save the Children Fund, commonly known as Save the Children, was established in the United Kingdom in 1919 to improve the lives of children through better education, health care, and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in natural disasters, war, and other conflicts. After passing a century, which it celebrated in 2019, it is now a global movement made up of 29 national member organizations which work in 120 countries.

ROLE PURPOSE:

To support Woreda health office for the smooth and accurate running of the CMAM/TSFP program through activity planning, capacity building, food commodity management, and supervision follows the National, Regional, and WFP TSFP protocol. The officer is responsible to lead the implementation, strengthen the linkage between therapeutic care in the TSF, site distributions and ensure regular and timely report compilation and submission is done in the Targeted Supplementary Feeding Program (TSFP).

The TSFP Officer will be responsible of the provision of TSFP activities in supported mobile clinics and fix health facilities to children 6-59 months of age and to PLWs with Moderate Acute Malnutrition. He/she is also expected to provide support for health workers and HEWs working in health facilities to provide quality TSFP services.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Facilitate and take part in the CMAM/TSFP trainings that will be conducted for health workers, health extension workers, community mobilizers & measurers, and FDAs.
  • Assist HEWs and Facilitating trainings and motivating volunteer community health workers in identification, referral and follow up of malnourished children
  • Implement and Provide technical support for TSFP (food distribution), Site preparation, and mobilization of community, and nutritional screening for host community
  • Attend on cluster level monthly review meetings with TSFP, SC, OTP, & IYCF site health workers, HEWs, and woreda health office staff
  • Ensure timely request and distribution of the project logistics, supply and equipment’s
  • Ensure proper utilization of project commodities, logistics and equipment’s
  • Ensure the quality of TSFP data generated at Health facility and community level and submit regularly to TSFP coordinator and updates any issues
  • Participate and contribute on project set-up, technical support visit, monitoring visits, surveys, assessment, and evaluations
  • Implement project activities and check its progress as per the plan of work closely with the community mobilizers and Measurers and identify gaps and notify to supervisor
  • Monitor the hygiene in the distribution area, to ensure hygiene in the warehouse, storage and distribution are properly maintained, ensure before leaving the SFP place that the wastes are properly collected, participate to the maintenance and the cleaning of the SFP site Undertake community sensitization.
  • Train HAD / HEWs on screening and community mobilization, referral and follow up of defaulter and cases of concern as well as delivery of key health, hygiene and nutrition messages – including COVID – 19,
  • Conduct regular MUAC/oedema screening to identify malnourished cases. Ensure referral mechanisms are in place and allows follow up.
  • Undertake capacity Building training for SCI and MoH staff on causes and identification of malnutrition and provision of appropriate nutrition services (SC, OTP, TSFP).
  • Provide TSFP supplies to targeted beneficiaries on a fortnightly basis.
  • Conduct health, hygiene and nutrition education session (with focus on COVID-19) at the TSFP for caretakers of malnourished children

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

ESSENTIAL:

  • BSc degree in Public Health/ Clinical Nursing/Nutrition and related health field of study preferred from accredited universities or health colleges
  • Minimum 3 years working experience with NGOs in CMAM program, specific to TSFP;

SKILLS/ABILITY REQUIRED

  • Knowledge, training and experience in management of TSFP and SAM management
  • Demonstrated skills in TSFP and CMAM program planning, implementation and monitoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Good human relation skills.
  • Willingness and capacity to be flexible and accommodating when faced with difficult and frustrating working conditions;
