Job Description


Background

The Entrepreneurship Development Centre (EDC)-Ethiopia is a quasi-governmental institution, a joint initiative of the Ethiopian Government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) – Ethiopia.  The Centre operates under the auspices of the Federal Urban Job Creations and Food Security Agency (JOB&FSA), part of the Ministry of Urban Development and Construction.  The Centre aims to foster the emergence of a robust and competitive private sector with focus on micro and small-scale enterprises. EDC is headquartered in Addis Ababa and regional coordination offices in Oromia (Bishoftu), Amhara (Bahir Dar), SNNPRS (Hawassa), and Tigray (Mekelle). The Centre is looking for a competent Training Manager who can strategically lead the training unit of the Centre by developing and executing effective training programs.

Scope of work:

Under the direct supervision of the Chief Executive Officer of the Centre and in partnership with other program managers, the Training Manager is responsible to craft, implement, and drive the training activities of the cent. He/she is expected to establish strong and effective training strategies and tactics and ensure their proper implementations.

Description of duties

  •  Manage and promote the portfolio of training activities for target beneficiaries of the entrepreneurship development program.
  • Oversee the implementation of training and other business growth training strategy that will promote the activities if the entrepreneurship development program.
  • Develop and review annual work plan for the training department and prepare periodic management reports on the implementation of the program.
  • Produce organizational strategy and implementation plans to meet training program targets as stipulated in the annual work plan.
  • Identify and train quality trainers and consultants on various short-term contracts.
  • Develop and implement a certification process for identified trainers and consultants.
  • Establish and maintain a database of local consultants who will provide entrepreneurship and other business management training.
  • Review and customize training materials to suit needs of trainees at both national and local levels.
  • Plan and organize profiling sessions for prospective entrepreneurs and develop profiling results for use in the training program.
  • Develop a close professional working relationship with external trainers and other stakeholders in other training institutions.
  • Oversee training venues, logistics, transport, accommodation as required to achieve efficient training attendance and delivery.
  • Undertake quality assurance monitoring visits to the training centers on a regular basis and provide necessary technical advice to the trainers.
  • Working closely with the Business Development and Innovation Services, and Marketing teams, design training courses and programs necessary to meet training needs of clients.

Management Arrangement

  • The Training Manager will work under the direct supervision of the Chief Executive Officer and operates in close collaboration with other project personnel.

Duty Stations: Headquarters, Addis Ababa with some travel to regions

Contract duration: One year with possible extension

Job Requirements

Required Qualification, Experiences and Skills

  • Education: Masters’ degree from a recognized University in Business Management, Economics, Development Studies, and related disciplines. A high-level certification in training/entrepreneurship development and instructional design, and mastery of Empretec methodology are prefered.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 8 years’ professional experiences in a related post.

Skills and knowledge:

  • Excellent leadership and team building skills and personality
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Supervisory skills and capacity to be a member of a multidisciplinary team
  • High integrity and confidentiality
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (particularly Word and Excel)
  • Confident and dynamic personality with strong creative outlook.
  • Superior project management and time management, organizational and planning skills
  • Self-motivated with a positive and professional approach to management
  • Excellent analytical, technical and conceptual knowledge about management and grasp of business management principles and practices.

Language:

  •  Excellent writing and spoken English and Amharic are required.
