Job Description


Kelem International School (KIS) is a recently established international school that caters to students from Pre-KG to Grade 10. Its origins trace back to 1946 when it was initially founded under the Swedish Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. However, as of July 1st, 2019, the school has undergone a transformation and now operates as an independent, not-for-profit institution.

Job Summary

Coaches will be responsible for advancing their trainees’ physical skills, mental development and overall knowledge of sports. They are responsible for the welfare of their students and for ensuring that students can gain the qualifications they need to advance their education in the After School Program (ASP).

Key Activities:

Coaching

  • Training and Supervising KIS sports Teams
  • Ensuring that children compete to their ability level
  • Motivating school children to take up new sports
  • Teach safety rules related to each activity

Team Management

  • Promote high standards of behavior and organization by encouraging a positive, proactive approach to study and build productive relationships with students
  • Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of students

Recording and Assessment

  • Liaise with the Head of Department and Learning Support Department where a student may have special educational needs
  • Assess, record and monitor the progress of all students according to faculty guidelines
  • Evaluating students’ performance
  • Demonstrate skills being taught; assist students in performing skills

Leadership

  • Promote a school sports culture which is positive, purposeful and professional
  • To be one of the first points of contact for parental queries and enquiries about additional support needs matters in the school. To encourage and foster good lines of communication with parents in relation to additional support needs.
  • Manage special needs education support students personal assistant staff to ensure they work effectively with their designated students with different needs.
  • Develop links with professionals, schools and agencies for possible collaborations

Other duties

  • Providing parents with comprehensive reports on their child’s progress
  • Implement the school values, discipline procedures and school culture initiatives
  • Collaborate with other members of the school’s leadership team to create and sustain programs for students and families that recognize and celebrate achievement and continuous progress

Reports to: PE Teacher / Head Coach

Coordinates with: Assistant Coaches, ASP Team, School Nurse, Admissions Office, Guidance & Counselor

Working Hours: Mon. – Fri. Afterschool and over the weekends (3:00pm – 5:00pm) (Program / timetable may vary based on enrollment)

Job Requirements

Educational Qualification: BEd/BSc/MSc in Physical Education and other related fields.

Work Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
