Job Description


World Vision Ethiopia began its first intervention in Ethiopia in 1971 with relief and opened the Ethiopia office in 1975. Relief, rehabilitation and small community development projects dominated the decade that followed. During the 1984/85 drought, World Vision Ethiopia participated in a massive relief operation that saved the lives of millions of people.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the project officer in situational assessment, operational planning, implementation and monitoring of the IDP activities.
  • Provide individual and group psychological first aid/psycho-social support to children and women affected by the conflict to enable them restore their safety, dignity and hope.
  • Facilitate consultation and discussions with beneficiary populations, making sure they are involved in needs assessment, delivery of protection/assistance and development/implementation of durable solutions.
  • Closely work with local authorities and relevant government sector (women and children affairs, education, social affairs, schools etc) to facilitate recovery and reiteration of the affected population.
  • Facilitate school enrolment for boys and girls and closely work with parents, community leaders, civil society organizations and other actors to ensure safety of children on the way to and from schools.
  • Ensure application of standards, guidelines and good practices for child protection and GBV in emergency related activities
  • Coordinate and manage the establishment of child friendly spaces in collaboration with school, local authorities, and faith leaders

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor Degree in social work, sociology, psychology, education or other related fields
  • Knowledge and experience on Gender Based Violence programming an asset.
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement integrated CP responses, including Gender Based Violence.
  • Awareness of or interest in community based protection mechanisms.
  • Direct case management and experience working with children and adolescents is an asset.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving
  • Knowledge of and ability to implement integrated CP responses, including Gender Based Violence.
  • Awareness of or interest in community based protection mechanisms in emergency context
  • Direct case management and experience working with children and adolescents is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience on Gender Based Violence programming an asset.
  • Knowledge of prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA).

Required Experience:

  • At least one-year relevant experience in child protection and related areas.

Working Environment / Conditions:

  • Field base with frequent travel to project sites
