Job Description


Responsibilities

The coordinator will :

  • management and coordination of project activities (4 outputs) in the region down to the project implementation zones, woredas and local government levels
  • assisting project initiatives to provide professional advisory services to and cooperate with the BoA and other related agricultural organizations as well as a broad range of target groups
  • innovation and knowledge management
  • integrating results and experience into teamwork and the work of all relevant groups
  • technical management of experts in the regional component

Management responsibilities

  • is responsible for the orders and measures in the project that are assigned to him/her and for managing all staff members who report to him/her (management responsibility for staff under his/her supervision)
  • manages staff in accordance with management principles and guidelines to promote a sense of corporate identity, enable employees to carry out tasks independently and create scope for developing creativity and innovation
  • is responsible for recruiting, selecting, grading, planning the assignment of and professional development of staff members who report to him/her
  • is also responsible for monitoring, managing staff and ensuring that they provide cost-effective services
  • carries out the annual staff assessment and development talk for staff members who report to him/her

Management tasks

  • manages regional project budget and lead staff and other resources in accordance with GIZ management principles and guidelines
  • develops project plan, monitors project progress and reviews progress reports and documents
  • identifies project bottlenecks and recommends alternative management options to the programme manager and deputy project manager.

Coordination tasks

  • assists with general project planning and develops project concepts including preparation, organisation and moderation of planning exercises and their implementation, management, monitoring, quality management, evaluation, communication and documentation
  • coordinates relevant project activities at regional and local level in consultation with the manager and in cooperation with the partners, both as regards implementation and preparing organisational aspects
  • compiles the relevant information for joint activities and assignments
  • handles order management on behalf of GIZ (e.g. offer preparation, impact monitoring, project progress review, reporting)
  • facilitates and coordinates the design and implementation of targeted capacity development measures for regional and local partners
  • supports the reviewing and analyzing of relevant policy issues of regional governments
  • conducts annual staff assessment and development talk and follow up on HRD measures for SRVC regional team members in coordination with federal SRVC management
  • responsible for communication and networking with all relevant stakeholders in the region
  • represents SRVC at regional and federal platforms when requested
  • responsible for the implementation of additional fields of activities in the project that are assigned to him/her
  • Provision of feedback to the Project Leaders and Programme Manager on strategies and activities.

Networking and cooperation

  • Bridges the regional BoA with the central SRVC project office and organizations related to the supported value Chains (e.g.: IAIPs and RTCs, Unions, and Cooperatives)
  • supports cooperation, regular contact and dialogue with partners, assists with PR work and cooperates with local communities, relevant organisations, non-governmental agencies and individuals in the project environment and with other projects to improve and maintain good working relationships
  • communicates local interests and efforts, forwards these and encourages sharing ideas and information for the benefit of the project

Knowledge management

  • ensures knowledge transfer to project/programme information
  • develops ready-to-use strategies and technical concepts, including guidelines, manuals and procedures
  • draws up reports and presentation documents
  • prepares appropriate input for various project/programme reports including annual reports, and contributes to the other reports required by the programme manager and GIZ Head Office
  • assists with research activities and studies on political issues which benefit joint programmes.

Job Requirement

Qualifications: masters/MSc or doctorate in an area of agriculture, agri-business, value chain development and/or agro-economy

Professional experience

  • 10 years’ professional experience, with at least 5 years’ professional experience in a comparable position
  • Strong working experience with key value chain stakeholders (producers, traders, enterprise groups, rural financing institutions/banks, and research/policy associations);
  • Proven communication and management skills in a multi-stakeholder setting
  • Experience with integrating gender and inclusion considerations into project implementation.

Other knowledge, additional competences

  • very good working knowledge of ITC technologies (related software, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office)
  • fluent in written and oral command of English and Amharic and the working language in the region of implementation
  • willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed
  • ability to organize and prioritize several tasks at the same time.
  • ability to work independently, unsupervised and as part of a multicultural and international team.
  • Knowledge of GIZ rules, regulations and systems is an asset.

Duration of contract: Until December 31, 2024
