We are looking to hire Experts for a project we are working on with an International Client.

 Summary

The expert will be a part of a project team working on capacity building of extension workers and relevant stakeholders in the lake catchment area during planning, implementation, and monitoring of sustainable watershed management through training, coaching, and backstopping.

Job Purpose and Accountabilities

• Provide guidance to the international team leader and other team members towards the coordination of the project with stakeholders on the regional and local levels
• Represent the project if and when appropriate, e.g. in the absence of the Team Leader in case of his/her absence
• Support the development of criteria for the selection of pilot areas
• Advise zonal and woreda administration on planning and implementing SLM measures
• Support the development of annual and multi-year watershed development and land use planning and implementing
• Train and coach extension workers on sustainable natura; resource management
• Contribute to the development of innovative concepts in SLM with strengthen the ownership of local communities
• Facilitate biophysical survey and analysis of the watershed resources
• Develop stakeholders map and support the extension system in development stakeholder’s engagement plan
• Make sure that the project approach is in line with national guidelines and regulations
• Provide input and assistance to project M&E, reporting and administration

Job Location: Lake Chamo area in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ Regional State (SNNPRS).

 Required qualification

• Education/training: Postgraduate university degree in Natural Resource Management and or Land Management and or Rural Development and or Agriculture
• Language: C1 proficiency level in English , C1 proficiency level in Amharic and the local language of the area of assignment (i.e. the ethnic languages around Lake Chamo)
• General professional experience: 8 years of professional experience in the land management sector (2 long-term assignments, i.e. > 6 months, in the past 10 years)
• Specific professional experience: Proven track record for work related to soil and water conservation, land use planning, adult training methodology and outreach, forest landscape management (leading role in 3 assignments) – 3 major contributions of the expert are to be described in the context of the selected / highlighted assignments; proven practical experience in GIS and remote sensing (certificate & leading role in 2 assignments) – 2 major contributions of the expert are to be described in the context of the selected / highlighted assignments
• Leadership experience: proven track record as project coordinator, team leader, or similar assignments (describe essential inputs to 2 successful projects each)
