Job Description

Summary

The (Senior) Conflict Manager will manage, design and lead implementation on conflict resolution and peacebuilding activities for IRI’s Ethiopia program. This is a 15-month position with potential of extension based on available funding based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This position will report to IRI’s Ethiopia Resident Program Director. Expats and local nationals are encouraged to apply.

Position Responsibilities

  • Undergraduate degree in political science, international development, or related Master’s degree in conflict resolution, peacebuilding, conflict transformation, community development, social development and community reconciliation or related field.
  • Six to eight years of experience in project management or project design and monitoring.
  • Proven experience in developing and conducting trainings on conflict resolution/peacebuilding along with strong report writing and project planning.
  • Experience in project design and management, gender and conflict sensitivity mainstreaming in project implementation is desirable.
  • Field experience working in post conflict environment is also desirable
  • Knowledge of the region and national context is preferred.
  • Experience working with CSOs especially at the grassroots level preferred.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills in dealing with partners and contractors.
  • Must have excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office, PowerPoint and Internet) and comfort working with database programs.
  • Must be able to work independently, multi-task, be persistent and work under tight deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability and desire to travel within Ethiopia required.

Primary Functions & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate the implementation of peace and community cohesion related activities.
  • Maintain regular communication and coordination with relevant partners, CSOs and local and national Government counterparts to ensure timely implementation of project activities.
  • Facilitate and provide technical inputs for the implementation of peace and community cohesion related activities, enabling delivery of high-quality outputs and activity results.
  • Strengthen synergies with/between IRI activities and work of other international and national partners also working on peacebuilding efforts to ensure complementation and reduction of redundancy.
  • Support local peace partners in the coordination of local level peacebuilding activities and facilitate the coordination with relevant local actors and key stakeholders.
  • Participate in relevant events and networks related to the specific scope of work.
  • Support the strengthening/capacity development of local civil society partners. Monitor and provide technical inputs /advice to CSOs implementing parts of IRI’s related work to ensure the achievement of results that are aligned to project objectives.
  • Identify capacity needs of local peace partners/structures and support the design and implementation of capacity development initiatives.
  • Support gender and conflict mapping and analysis, monitoring and evaluation and lessons learned studies.
  • Promote community-led participatory conflict and context analyses to inform project programming.
  • Monitor and assess activity progress against the project’s Annual Work Plan targets and monitoring and evaluation indicators and targets.
  • Ensure the project lessons learned and best practices are captured, documented and periodically shared.
  • Support identification of new entry points for IRI activities that contribute to conflict resolution, peacebuilding, social cohesion, and community security.
  • Support gender analysis and mainstreaming in all project activities.
  • Provides substantial contributions to quarterly, semi-annual, final and other relevant reports for donors, and, provide updates and briefing notes as necessary.
  • Participates in the substantive design of new conflict programs and contributes to the development of new program ideas for Ethiopia.
  • Maintains an understanding of donor and IRI policies and procedures related to grant compliance and oversight, including specific compliance details for all projects to which he/she is assigned.
  • Contributes information to RPD, DC program staff and the Regional Project Accountant, to ensure that expenditures remain within budget allocations and rules of allowability.
  • Contributes substantially to specific business development efforts relevant to conflict and peacebuilding, including identifying and seeking out potential new or additional sources of funding with real-time costs estimates for proposal budgets, and/or the development of new program ideas, coordinating with DC staff; Importantly, gathers intelligence from relevant local stakeholders (in-country partners, competitors, donors) to inform the Ethiopia team’s capture efforts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education : Bachelors or better in Political Science or related field.

Experience : 6-8 years:

  • Proven experience in developing and conducting trainings on conflict resolution/peacebuilding along with strong report writing and project planning.
  • Experience in project design and management, gender and conflict sensitivity mainstreaming in project implementation is desirable.
  • Field experience working in post conflict environment is also desirable
