Job Description


The role of the Embassy of Portugal in Addis Ababa is to advance the interests of Portugal and Portuguese communities in its area of jurisdiction, which covers Ethiopia, Rwanda, Djibouti, Somalia and South Sudan. It involves diplomatic representation in bilateral and multilateral spheres, working with other Portuguese agencies to drive development cooperation, enhancing the promotion of Portuguese Language and Culture and helping Portuguese travelers and Portuguese overseas.

About the Position and Key Responsibilities:

  • The Technical Superior is responsible for supporting the Embassy’s work in the aforementioned domains, namely in the political and consular, as well as representation of the Embassy in specialized coordination bodies, at local level and with Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal.
  • The applicant can expect to support diplomatic work on the bilateral sphere, as well as to cover the international organizations to which the Embassy is accredited to, namely African Union (AU), United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD).
  • The Technical Superior is also expected to support the administrative tasks, as well as to assume responsibilities in the Consular Section of the Embassy, with proper supervision.

Reports to (title): Ambassador of Portugal in Addis Ababa

Gross Monthly Salary: 210,93 EUR, including 13th and 14th month (2.953,02 EUR of gross annual salary)

Benefits :Medical and life insurance program for the employee + meal subsidy (0,50 EUR per day)

Job Requirements

Qualifications/Experience

  • General requirements for civil service under the Portuguese Law, with the expectation of Portuguese nationality;
  • Being holder of Bachelor degree or equivalent certificate, in International Relations, Political Science, Public Administration, or a relevant area;
  • Being a resident in Ethiopia, notwithstanding the possibility of proof of residency to be provided after contracting;
  • Having regularized tax and social security situation with the local authorities;
  • Knowledge of Portuguese, English and other local languages.
