Job Description


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and periodic revision of EIH’s risk management framework and detailed policy / procedures including risk taxonomy, assessment, appetite limits, mitigation strategies and governance model in line with international and domestic good practices
  • Lead the development of infrastructure/technology for management and analysis risk performance
  • Develop annual risk management plan for the overall institution through the participation of other functions
  • Coach and onboard functions and individuals to understand risk management framework
  • and align functional plans to the framework
  • Support various functions in developing risk identification and evaluation strategies for new, emerging risks
  • Generate periodic risk reports to the Executive Team and trigger escalation and remediation
  • plan where needed
  • Support  portfolio  function  in  conducting  assessment  of  risk  framework  of  portfolio companies, develop support strategies
  • Build an institutional capability, culture and mindset that is risk-intelligent, customizing
  • principles to the specific needs EIH and various functions
  • Take on other responsibilities as guided by the CEO and the Executive Team

Job Requirement

Required Education, Experience and Competencies:

  • A minimum of First Degree and/or internationally accredited certificate in business management, economics, finance, accounting, mathematics, or other relevant fields

The best candidate for the position will possess the following competencies:

  • Demonstrated expertise and progression of responsibility in risk and/or investment management role, in a similar institutional context such as banking / financial services, holding company with a diverse portfolio of operational assets across industries
  • Strong understanding of Ethiopia’s macroeconomic set up and business environment including key policy and regulatory instruments and institutions, market structure and business practices in Ethiopia’s pillar industries such as agriculture, manufacturing, import/export, transport logistics
  • Experience playing a leadership, senior expert and/or advisory role in corporate governance units such as investment committees, Internal Audit, Legal, Board Committee or external advisory firms such as auditors
  •  Able to navigate and understand responsibilities of various functions/professions (investment, portfolio, finance, HR, technology, etc), digest strategies, plans and operating procedures to identify risks and co-develop mitigation plans
  • Ability to evaluate performance of teams and individuals and deliver constructive feedback
  • Deep familiarity with mathematical / computational system for managing risk inventory and experience in procurement and use of technology tools
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal especially executive management
