Your Opportunity:

In alignment with the SCN Co-design principles the Zone Central Access and Triage RN will engage, plan, explore, develop, decide and initiate change to ensure seamless movement of patient referrals from receipt in the Central Access and Triage office to notification of a specialist appointment. Under the supervision of the identified zone manager the Zone Central Access and Triage RN work directly with other RNs and Administrative Support team members with the responsibility to screen and triage referrals and oversee the distribution of referrals to the most appropriate surgeons based on surgical wait times, and aCATS lists. The Central Access and Triage RNs work collaboratively with surgeons, MOAs, Management, Nursing, PreAdmission Clinics, Bed Management/Patient Flow, Surgical Inpatients, and Extended day wards to ensure efficient management of referral wait times and support operational processes associated with the process, The RN’s liaise closely with the Surgical Access and Surgical CAT teams by supporting and helping to manage and guide processes associated with the unscheduled activity. They have ongoing involvement in the program, department in the Zone process and quality improvement initiatives, supporting ongoing assurance that booked surgical patients are appropriately ready, willing and able to have surgery. These positions are zone-based with responsibilities within the associated zone leadership. RN Duties. Triage and processing referrals; sets and implements processes and targets that meet the criteria of the College of Physicians and Surgeons Standard of Practice Referral and Consultation.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of three years of related experience with a variety of surgical service specialities is required. A minimum of five years of acute care nursing experience in an operating/ procedural or surgical unit is required. Proven leadership and organizational skills in acute care settings. Demonstrate strong computer literacy, knowledge and skill with computer programs (e.g. Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, Access, Alberta Netcare and Connect Care) are required. The ability to prioritize and perform effectively in an environment with interruptions and distractions, with frequent workload changes and competing demands within established time frames is required. Must be able to work in a high-stress environment with multiple challenges is required. Must have a valid driver’s license and be physically able to visit multiple patient care areas, physician offices and facilities within the zone. Strong process analysis, problem-solving and decision-making skills with attention to detail are required. Proven ability to have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively liaise with various healthcare professionals by providing clear, concise, accurate and timely information is required. The ability to work independently and demonstrate excellent time management skills. Demonstrated conflict management

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in collaborating with physicians, other healthcare professionals and patients. Maintenance and understanding of statistical information associated with surgical scheduling are preferred. Proven ability to function in a dynamic setting. Ability to manage change and create innovative solutions to complex and diverse issues.
