Organizational overview

 

Organization for social service, health and Development (OSSHD) Previously known by OSSA, is the first and pioneer organization in fight against HIV and AIDS in Ethiopia. It was established in 1990 by religious organizations, international agencies and cooperation of the national ministry of health with the overall goal of contributing to the national effort of prevention and control of the spread of HVI/AIDS. Since 2016, OSSHD shifted to focus on the diverse introduction of programmatic areas such as SRH, Prevention of gender-based violence (GBV), Water sanitation and hygiene (WASH), Harm reduction, Maternal Neonatal and child Health (MNCH), Treatment of NTDs and livelihood.

The organization would like to hire a well experienced and competent applicant for the new Gavi Impact Grant for the following position.

 

Tittle: – Regional Immunization Senior Project Officer

 

Job Grade: 11

 

Job Summary

 

The Regional immunization Coordinator/ TA will provide technical assistance to the RHB to improve service quality and user experience of immunization services.  Specifically, the person will provide support and technical assistance for the regional health bureau on identification of zero-dose and under immunized children, reaching and monitoring children in prioritized woredas with high numbers of zero-dose children. He/she will closely work with woreda and zonal TAs Assigned by OSSHD and other regional TAs assigned by other partners. The regional TA will provide day-to-day and strategic support to the RHB’s EPI team for the responsibilities described below.

 

Job Responsibility

 

  • Work with the RHB to analyze their situation and identify the needs relating to Zero dose children and under vaccinated children, with particular focus to prioritized woredas having high number of zero-dose.
  • Ensure all the priority woredas have Zero dose /Uder-immunized tailored REC/RED Micro-planning.
  • Provide support for the planning, implementation and monitoring of any new vaccine introduction and switch.
  • Support Regional Health Bureaus (RHBs) and EPSS in coordinating and providing IIP, Vaccine and cold chain management and other training.
  • Cofacilitate capacity building activities related with immunization service through trainings, mentorship and advocacy meetings.
  • Contribute to documenting experiences, lessons learned, success stories, activity reports, presentations, and briefs.
  • Participate on technical working group meeting and regularly provide/present update report of performance.
  • Conduct and ensure monitoring of activities, immunization session, vaccine, temperature, immunization coverage status among high-risk community, and cause for unimmunized children.
  • Support and facilitate performance review meeting at Regional, Zonal and Woreda level
  • Provide technical support in any demand creation activities specially advocacy by designing tailored materials to the context using local data, and awareness creation to address barriers for RI, including gender-related barriers.
  • Perform other assignments and responsibilities as assigned by RHB and/or OSSHD and Execute any additional tasks as advised by the supervisor.

 

 

Duty station:     Amhara Region (Bahirdar) and Benishangul Gumz Region (Assosa)

 

Number of positions: Two (2)

 

Reports to:              Senior Immunization project Coordinators at Head office 

 

Salary     :          As per the organizational scale

 

Contract Period:     One year and six months

About You

Qualification and Experience

 

  • Master of public health (MPH) or other equivalent qualifications with first degree in health-related areas
  • Minimum of six years working experience in immunization and public health. Should have at least five years of experience on routine immunization and other RMNCH experience
  • Experience in immunization data analysis is needed.
  • Demonstrated experience working within the region and familiarity with the region.
  • Proven ability to use adult learning techniques to facilitate trainings, supportive supervision and technical assistance
  • Strong organizational, management and communication skills to collaborate partners and decision makers at the national, regional, zonal and woreda level
  • Demonstrated ability to be a team player, to lead teams, and to organize multiple activities simultaneously; ability to communicate and negotiate competing demands on time from managers and work effectively with distributed teams.
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power point, and familiarity with DHIS2
  • Fluency in English; Fluency in the regional language is a strong asset
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 40% of the time to regions, zones, and Woredas

 

Knowledge, Skill and Ability

 

  • Strong relationship management, project management, and documentation skills
  • Understanding regional working language
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Word, Excel, and Power point
  • Humility and willingness to work hard in difficult conditions, patience with bureaucracy
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to work in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to set and meet and deadlines
