After living in Addis a while, we noticed that there are tons of Addis Ababans living busy and active lives, but lacking delicious and nutritious snacks to fuel their hard work and big adventures on-the-go. We seek to fuel meaningful experiences with convenient, nutritious, and natural snacks infused with the flavors of Ethiopia and crafted with love. We exist to support our employees, suppliers, partners, families and communities to create better lives.

TruLuv Granola is an artisanal all-natural snacks company based out of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. We are a dynamic female-led business started in 2016, that makes healthy snacks made with ingredients we aim to sustainably source from local smallholder farmers and that are crafted by Ethiopian women.

Our all-natural snack bars and bite size snacks are made with unique Ethiopian ingredients and flavors, like coffee, berbere, white honey and teff. TruLuv Granola contains no added sugar or artificial flavoring, and is sweetened only with Ethiopian honey.

We are at an exciting point as we continue to grow our sales within Ethiopia and begin to work on export.

As we embark on this journey, we are looking for a passionate, energetic self-starter to join our team in the role of Purchasing Officer. You will work directly with our Operations Manager to take on the following responsibilities towards creating and maintaining good relationships with key suppliers to ensure the goods and services we receive are high quality and delivered on time.

You’ll be involved in evaluating vendors, negotiating contracts, supporting our local raw material sourcing agenda (working with smallholder farmers). For this role, you should have good knowledge of market research, relationship building skills, along with solid analytical skills.

To be successful in this role you should be able to multitask and evaluate products and vendors and you should be a smooth negotiator with a keen eye for detail.

Core responsibilities

  • Conducting product research and sourcing new suppliers and vendors.
  • Develop local agricultural raw material sourcing strategy
  • Partner with and support smallholder farmers for TruLuv sourcing needs
  • Sourcing materials, goods, products, and services and negotiating the best or most cost-effective contracts and
  • Negotiate contract terms of agreement and pricing
  • Track orders and ensure timely delivery
  • Conducting market research to keep abreast of emerging trends and business opportunities.
  • Review quality of purchased products
  • Inspecting stock and reporting any faulty items or inconsistencies immediately.
  • Establishing professional relationships with clients as well as vendors and suppliers.
  • Enter order details (e.g. vendors, quantities, prices) into internal databases
  • Maintain updated records of purchased products, delivery information and invoices
  • Prepare reports on purchases, including cost analyses
  • Performing inventory inspections and reordering supplies and stock as necessary.
  • Coordinate with warehouse staff to ensure proper storage
  • Attend exhibitions to stay up-to-date with industry trends

Qualifications & Skills-

  • Recently obtained Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Business Administration or relevant field;
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Amharic;
  • Work experience as a Purchasing Officer, or similar role
  • Good knowledge of vendor sourcing practices (researching, evaluating and liaising with vendors)
  • Interest in working with diverse set of suppliers, from smallholder farmers to foreign manufacturers – experience working with all types of suppliers a bonus.
  • Understanding of supply chain procedures
  • Solid analytical skills, with the ability to create financial reports and conduct cost analyses
  • Negotiation skills
  • Good oral, written, and communication/presentation skills;
  • Strong organizational skills and time management;
  • Strong work ethic;
  • Ability to take initiative;
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills;
  • Attention to detail to ensure quality;
  • Great internet and computer skills, including MS Office programs and conducting research online;
  • Willingness to contribute ideas and feedback and provide suggestions;
  • Self-motivated; proactive, seeks opportunities for self-improvement;
