Job Description


Young Women Christian Association in Ethiopia is an affiliate member of World YWCA; an international voluntary membership movement that connects women leading social and economic change in over 12 countries/ YWCA in Ethiopia was initially founded in 1962 and reestablished in 2000 then re-registered as Ethiopian resident charity following proclamation 621/2009 and again re-registered with revised CSO 1113/2019 proclamation under FDRE CSO agency.

Summary

Currently, YWCA Ethiopia is looking for potential candidate to recruit for the below vacant position. The PR and Communications Officer supports all operations of the YWCA’s public relations, communications, and membership development work and will work closely with members and partners of the association, to achieve image building and enlarging partnership of the Association.

Primary roles and responsibilities:

Communication, Networking, and Partnership

  • Follow up on the development of communications strategy based on our target audience.
  • Write, edit, design, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, and other marketing material that communicates the organization activities.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, and maintain YWCA’s image in the media.
  • Seek opportunities to enhance the reputation of the organization, and coordinate publicity events as required.
  • Maintain records of media coverage and collate documents.
  • Preparing, designing, and supervising the production of letters, publicity brochures, handouts, direct mail leaflets, promotional videos, photographs, films, and multimedia programs (for hard copy and for social media).
  • Compile annual reports, quarterly newsletters and ensure distribution to donors, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Closely work with all program staff, to update information and current news on the organization’s website and other social media (FB, Twitter, Instagram, Telegram and LinkedIn)
  • Formulating high-quality written and visual content for each social media campaign.
  • Building a social media presence by maintaining a solid online presence.
  • Monitoring the organization’s brand on social media.
  • Managing our online communities to ensure respectful and appropriate engagement.
  • Ensure the proper documentation of pictorial documents and videos.
  • Analyze data to determine whether social media campaigns have achieved their objectives
  • Conduct needs assessment of program staff on the development of communication material development or social media coverage.
  • Facilitating and coordinating all events in the organization including visits to branch offices
  • Maintain the optimum level of relationship with external partners and donors of the organization.

Public Relations Responsibilities:

  • Responding to requests for information release or press conference from the media or designating a spokesperson or source of information.
  • Respond to media inquiries, arrange interviews, and act as a spokesperson for the organization.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with consumers, community, employees, and public interest groups.
  • Planning or directing the development of programs to maintain favorable public and stockholder views of the organization’s agenda and accomplishments.
  • Studying the organization’s objectives, promotional policies, and needs to build public relations strategies that influence public opinion and promote products, ideas, and services.
  • Preparing and editing organizational publications, including employee newsletters or stockholders; reports, for internal and external audiences.
  • Updating and maintaining Web content.
  • Conferring with managers to identify trends and group interests and providing advice on business decisions.
  • Reach out to private sectors

Membership Development

  • Conduct needs assessment of members needs and assists in designing and planning of annual membership drive programs
  • Provide orientation on the history, and programs of the movement upon recruitment to newly joining members and maintain regular communication with members
  • Process membership application,
  • Maintain database of YWCA member’s information and generate biannual membership reports.
  • Monitor on follow up of membership dues together with the Finance Department
  • Work closely with program officers to enable service beneficiaries to become members of the Association
  • Organizing membership development programs in coordination with other staff.
  • Recruit corporate members through organizing membership development programs, in-person introduction about YWCA, etc.
  • Fund Raising:
  • Organizing and coordinate of Fundraising events for school renovation and school material support
  • Reach out to private sectors to raise fund

Terms of Employment: Contractual with possibility of extension based on availability of funds and performance appraisal

Job Requirements

Academic Qualification : Bachelor Degree in Marketing, Journalism and Communication, IT and community development, or any other social science-related fields

Work Experience: : Minimum of Bachelor Degree with 2 years’ experience in an NGO setting
