Job Description


Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) was legally established in 2007 as a national developmental and humanitarian organization with a primary focus on ensuring a better future for children, youth, and women through direct investments and enhancement of quality education, ensuring gender equality and empowering youth and women, upholding community health, and supporting early childhood development. The organization operates in five regions: Amhara, Oromia, Sidama, Central Ethiopia, and South Ethiopia.

Job Summary

Currently, ESD is seeking to hire competent, qualified and interested candidate for the position of Protection Coordinator who is responsible to the implementation of “Her Protection Her Empowerment (HPHE): Strengthen local action addressing protection risk and empowerment of SGBV survivals”, Amhara Region, Ethiopia.

Note: – ESD has zero tolerance for sexual exploitation and abuse (SEA) and any forms of Gender-Based Violence.

Duty Station: Finote Selam.

Reports to: Program Coordinator

Salary: Negotiable/ commensurate with qualification

Duration: One-year contract

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Program Implementation:

  • Ensure projects are implemented on time and maintain high quality through technical support and regular follow-up with field offices.
  • Implement projects/programs according to the designed strategies.
  • Identify capacity-building needs of field staff and propose strategies to enhance their skills.
  • Collaborate with the Finance and Admin and the Program Office Coordinator for planning, budgeting, and ensuring proper utilization of funds
  • Monitor program implementations by setting weekly, monthly, and quarterly action plans.
  • Assist the Protection Officer in developing and submitting weekly and monthly action plans and updates.
  • Ensure adherence to internal policies and program management standards.
  • Monitor program and financial status, develop financial plans, and ensure sound financial controls.
  • Represent ESD’s interests and programs with external stakeholders.
  • Organize timely appraisal workshops for field staff and stakeholders before project implementation.
  • Ensure proper documentation (both soft and hard copies) of all projects.

Support and Care for GBV Survivors:

  • Provide direct support and care for adult GBV survivors, and specialized support for adolescent and girl child survivors, including counseling and case management.
  • Follow GBV guiding principles of respect, confidentiality, safety/security, and non-discrimination while providing services.
  • Ensure proper documentation of GBV incidents using GBV IMS forms.
  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation of reported cases and referrals.
  • Develop and strengthen referral networks to improve survivors’ access to confidential and safe GBV services.
  • Ensure adherence to GBV guiding principles and survivor-centered care.

Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning, and Reporting:

  • Collaborate with M&E section to establish monitoring and evaluation systems for new and existing projects.
  • Conduct regular field visits for technical support and provide reports.
  • Facilitate and implement project mid-term and end-term evaluations.
  • Organize program visits for government and funding partners.
  • Compile and submit quality monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.
  • Document daily learnings and best practices.
  • Gather and analyze assessment/monitoring data and share reports.
  • Ensure timely data gathering and reporting for internal and external use.
  • Incorporate safeguarding and program participant risks during monitoring visits.

Compliance and Performance:

  • Adhere to donor and government compliance requirements.
  • Follow organizational policy and standardization manuals.
  • Gender and Social Inclusion:
  • Contribute to gender and accountability work.
  • Plan, implement, and report on gender equality and social inclusion activities.

Accountability and Transparency:

  • Ensure visibility of ESD’s communications and products in the project area.
  • Adhere to the organization’s accountability framework.
  • Implement compliance with Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS).
  • Participate in external verification processes of CHS.
  • Conduct routine risk assessments and report safeguarding issues.
  • Raise awareness about safeguarding and ESD’s complaint handling mechanisms.

Safeguarding:

  • Seek appropriate advice and report concerns.
  • Understand local safeguarding structures.
  • Reduce the risk of abuse, harm, or neglect.
  • Refer at-risk individuals to appropriate services.
  • Document safeguarding concerns and maintain proper records.
  • Gather feedback and complaints, document them securely, and report to field offices.

Requirements

Qualification

  • MA/MBA/BA in Social Work, Psychology, Gender Studies, Sociology or related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience for MA/MBA or 5 years for BA/BSc in GBV prevention, response, and/or protection programs, preferably in conflict-affected/humanitarian settings.
  • Preferred experience in NGOs.
