Job Description


MSD is a non-profit, civic society organization founded in 1999 to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Since then, MSD works to strengthen the socio-economic development of the wider community, and the nation at large. Working with partners and stakeholders, MSD advance the voice of citizens and community structures in service delivery, identifying priority needs, provide support and services to target groups with education, skills and promote opportunity to get along with assets. Aligned to its vision, mission and strategic objectives, MSD has been working in different development, emergency and humanitarian endeavors including HIV Prevention, care and support, Orphan and vulnerable children (OCV) care and support, Sexual and Reproductive health (SRH),Family Planning (FP), Gender Based Violence (GBV), migration, child protection and environmental protection. Through these technical area and services, it reached different hard to reach target groups including early married girls, GBV survivor, OVCs, refugees, PLHA, commercial sex workers and their clients, waitresses, long truck drivers, CSOs, CBOs and the community. At community level, the organization works with community members and community based social service providing institutions, schools, health facilities, government line offices, marginalized groups and professional associations.

The safety and wellbeing of children and at-risk adults are priorities of MSD. The organization provides a safe environment in all its programs and activities. It has strong recruitment procedures to make sure the safest and most suitable people work with the children in its programs.

Project Overview: This is child protection project going to be implemented in Amahara region: North Gojam  (Bahir Dar Zuria Woreda , Merawi town) & Awi Zone (Chagni town and Gugsa Shkudaj ( Tilil town) with financial and technical support of UNICEF Ethiopia and partnership of regional and sub-regional government and community level structures. The project is intended to & alleviates the suffering of 3000 Children through child protection packages of services in the four implementation woredas.

Job Summary:

The child protection officer is responsible for planning, organizing and coordination for the implementation of the CP project in which she/he is assigned.  In consultation with the CP PC and with other project staff, she/he develops annual implementation plan of the project site, undertake the plan, and ensures that an appropriate monitoring system is in place to track progress and deviations of project implementation. Besides a Child Protection Officer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children, particularly in organizations working in child welfare, education, or community services.

MSD is looking for qualified and competent applicants for the following position:

  • Negotiable subject to organizational salary scale and project budget

About You

Major Responsibilities and Tasks:

Job Responsibility #1: Program Planning and Implementation

  • Plan, lead, organize, direct, coordinate and monitor the overall planning and execution of the child protection project in the project site, ensuring alignment with strategic goals;
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the child protection project, ensuring adherence to objectives and timelines;
  • Implement and monitor project activities in line with established child protection standards and policies in the project sites;
  • Follow, assist and ensures that all project staff under supervision have updated monthly and quarterly implementation plans;
  • Builds the capacity of SSWs and other volunteers, stakeholders and partners by providing training on child protection and all other related issues;
  • Support & ensure that all project staff have updated monthly & quarterly implementation plans;

Responsibility #2: Program Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting

  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks/plans to assess; and track project progress, outcomes and effectiveness against the intended goal and objectives
  • Periodically conduct monitoring, JISS, review meeting with staffs, regional and sub-regional stakeholders.
  • Undertake continuous data management and quality assurance per donor requirement and organization  standard and  guideline;
  • Prepares quarterly, biannual and annual financial and project performance reports of the project and submit to organization and donor per the designated timeline.
  • Maintain project documents, lessons and innovations as part of knowledge management.

 

Responsibility #3: Staff Management

  • Coach and mentor project staffs and provide technical supports to deliver quality of services to target beneficiaries.
  • Establish team work, effective communication and cross fertilize experiences between project staffs
  • Provides continued regular support to project officers and Social Service Workers (SSWs)

 Educational Qualifications:

 Education and training 

  • Bachelor’s degree ( BA/BSC) OR Master’s degree (MA or MSc) in Sociology, Psychology, Public Health, Gender and Development, Project Management field of studies;
  • Relevant certifications in project management and/or child protection (e.g., CP training) are preferred;
  • Training in project monitoring and evaluation methodologies, as well as child safeguarding practices;

Work experiences:

  • A minimum of 2/4 years and above of relevant work experience.
  • Direct and proven work experiences in managing CP and emergency project is advantageous;
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, particularly children, in community settings;
  • Familiarity with local child protection laws, policies, and practices;
  • NGO setting work experiences are highly desirable/mandatory;
  • Experiences in managing/coordinating Humanitarian/Emergency projects  are highly desirable;

 

Required Skills: Communication, time management, partnership and networking, PCM, problem solving, Coordination, report writing, team building and management, adaptive management, Microsoft Office.
