Job Description


The Project Officer will be responsible for assisting in the management and implementation of health and nutrition programs in the assigned refugee camp. The role involves supporting the Health and Nutrition Coordinators in overseeing health service delivery, ensuring the timely preparation and submission of periodic reports, and managing health service data. The Project Officer will be stationed in refugee camps and will play a key role in monitoring program activities, coordinating with health facility staff, and ensuring compliance with donor and regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Program Implementation and Monitoring:

  • Support the implementation of health and nutrition programs in refugee camps, ensuring that services align with donor requirements and national health policies.
  • Assist in coordinating and overseeing health and nutrition activities in collaboration with Health and Nutrition Coordinators.
  • Conduct regular field visits to health facilities and community health programs to monitor service delivery and identify areas for improvement.
  • Ensure that essential health and nutrition services, including immunization, maternal and child health, and disease prevention, are effectively delivered.
  • Support the mobilization of community health volunteers to enhance outreach and health promotion activities.

Data Management and Reporting:

  • Ensure accurate and timely collection, verification, and reporting of health service data from refugee camps.
  • Assist in maintaining health information systems (HIS) for tracking key health indicators and program outcomes.
  • Prepare and submit periodic reports (weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual) in coordination with the Health and Nutrition Coordinator and Health Program Officer.
  • Support the development of program monitoring tools and ensure proper documentation of health activities and achievements.
  • Assist in compiling and analyzing health and nutrition data to support decision-making and program adjustments.

Coordination and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with health facility staff, community health workers, and implementing partners to ensure effective service delivery.
  • Liaise with relevant government health authorities and UNHCR health teams to strengthen collaboration and alignment with national health strategies.
  • Participate in health coordination meetings and provide updates on program implementation.
  • Assist in the facilitation of donor visits, audits, and health assessments in refugee camps.

Compliance and Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure that all health interventions comply with donor regulations, UNHCR health policies, and WHO guidelines.
  • Support the enforcement of infection prevention and control (IPC) measures across all health service points.
  • Assist in the training and capacity-building of health workers to improve adherence to clinical protocols and best practices.
  • Identify programmatic gaps and recommend improvements to enhance service delivery and health outcomes.

Emergency Preparedness and Response:

  • Assist in monitoring and responding to disease outbreaks and public health emergencies in refugee camps.
  • Support the coordination of emergency health responses, including vaccination campaigns and epidemic surveillance.
  • Ensure early warning systems for disease outbreaks are effectively utilized and reported to relevant authorities.

Other Duties:

  • Perform other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor to support the overall effectiveness of the health program.

Required Number: Four (4)

Salary: As per the organization scale

About You

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Nursing, Nutrition, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in health and nutrition program implementation, preferably in humanitarian settings.
  • Experience working in UNHCR-funded and refugee health programs is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of health service delivery in refugee camps and emergency response settings.
  • Excellent data management, monitoring, and reporting skills.
  • Ability to work in remote and challenging environments with minimal supervision.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with experience in stakeholder coordination.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and health information management systems.
