Job Description


Job Summary

  • The project manager leads the implementation of the project, liaises with the implementing partners and closely works with the country director of DSW Ethiopia as well as the program manager.
  • She or he provides the overall strategic and operational, technical and administration guidance related to the project and being ultimately responsible for the implementation, delivery of results, monitoring and evaluation, documentation and reporting of the project.

Specific responsibilities

Coordination and Management

  • Ensure the project coordination with the partners, branch offices and satellite offices as per the project documents.
  • Ensure the quality of outputs and results foreseen. Strengthen optimal coordination and internal communication mechanisms among the project team at the country office, regional office, satellite offices and the SAFA coordination unit.
  • Promote partners’ collaboration and coordination in order to ensure achievements with particular focus on the project objectives which foresee synergies among partners.
  • Provide direction, coordination and ensure overall supervision of the project personnel at country office, regional and satellite office.
  • Support the management of project resources (human, financial and material) in coordination with the project staff members and DSW senior management team by applying strategic planning and systematic coordination of the project activities.
  • Provide technical support, guidance and coaching to project staff members, partners and communities to ensure the proper management and sustainability of the project,

Monitoring & Reporting

  • Coordinate the development of project monitoring and evaluation plan and ensure that it is implemented accordingly, including the documentation of good practices Ensure timely preparation and compilation of the project annual/quarterly work plans and
  • Prepare progress/final substantial and financial reports to donor and government.
  • Keep updating timely and regularly the program manager and country director of DSW Ethiopia on the project progress being made, relevant strategic and operational, be it internal or external, variables that affect the implementation as well as present opportunities which could increase its impact.
  • Documenting and producing quality and standard reporting as per the donor procedures and regulations and provide data/feedback to the field staff.
  • Prepare monthly reports for the country office on key project activities, issues and required action points.
  • Properly document and share project processes, achievements, learning and impacts in coordination with DSW communication team and ensure proper implementation of the visibility guidelines of the donor.

Representation and Positioning

  • Represent the project in front of counter parties and enhance the project partnerships/relationships with development partners, public and private stakeholders,  other networks, research and academic institutions in the project areas and at national levels in consultation with the country director.
  • Guide and orient efforts and contributions of consultants, staff and government counterparts towards achievement of project objectives.
  • Ensure gender mainstreaming into all project activities.

Other responsibilities

  • Support resource mobilization (RM) mainly in the development of new project proposals to apply to international donors’ calls.
  • Verify and channel all requests for project, administrative, logistic and other support and report to Country director and other management team

Job Requirement

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Batchelor of science degree in Medicine/Public Health/Nursing and Masters of Science in Public Health, Reproductive Health and related fields.
  • A minimum of ten years work experiences in CSOs preferably in foreign charities of which, at least, four years should be at a managerial position mainly involving project/program management on adolescent and youth SRH, family planning, SRH program development, fund raising, partnership development, networking and alliance building. Experiences are also required in human, financial and material resources management, basic M & E knowledge, good documentation and report writing skills.
  • Demonstrated management of donor-funded development projects/programs.
  • Proven experience in coordinating adolescent and youth SRH projects, provide technical support to project staff and good communication and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrable experience in organizing and facilitating multi-stakeholder platforms at different levels.
  • Strong knowledge of current global and national development priorities and strategies, Ethiopia’s national policies, strategies and procedures mainly related with adolescent and youth health.
  • Proven experience in proposal and report writing to donors and government.
  • Knowledge, practical application and implications of participatory development approaches, tools, monitoring and evaluation tools.
  • Ability to structure and manage complex tasks, including experience in planning, coordination and activity budgeting.
  • Demonstrable ability to engage partners and stakeholders to build effective partnership models, excellent networking, alliance building and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimum supervision
  • Ability to work with and coordinate diverse team members and proven experience in team building and team work.
  • Ability to communicate in relevant local languages (Amharic and Afan Oromo)  are advantageous.

Other skills and Requirements

  •  Basic computer skills, including Microsoft offices, power point presentations and others
  • Willingness and availability to travel to project areas, including the rural areas where local communities reside.
  • Good behavior and attitude

Remuneration and Benefits: Negotiable based on the organization’s salary and benefit scheme

Location: Addis Ababa, with frequent travels to the project areas and relevant localities where the target beneficiaries or communities reside
