Job Description


Organizational Proffile: MERSA Media Institute is a nonprofit media policy think tank. We work to help create vibrant, responsible, and independent media institutions, professional unions, and education centers through research, capacity building, and institutional support in Ethiopia.

 

Position Summary: The Information Integrity and Media Ecosystem Development (I-MED) project aims to improve citizen access to fact-checked content by incubating sustainable innovations for information monitoring. The I-MED Project Lead will be responsible for the overall management and execution of the I-MED project. This role will involve coordinating with stakeholders, managing project activities, and ensuring the successful implementation of the project’s objectives. The Project Lead will work closely with the project team, partners, and beneficiaries to foster a robust and trustworthy media ecosystem in Ethiopia.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive project plan, including timelines, milestones, and budget.
  • Monitor project progress and identify potential risks and challenges.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, civil society organizations, media outlets, and international partners.
  • Facilitate collaborative partnerships to achieve project objectives.
  • Lead and motivate the project team, providing clear direction and support.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Oversee the project budget, ensuring funds are utilized efficiently and effectively.
  • Monitor financial transactions and prepare regular financial reports.
  • Comply with financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Collect and analyze data to inform decision-making and identify areas for improvement.
  • Prepare regular progress reports and impact assessments.
  • Identify and promote innovative approaches to information monitoring and fact-checking.
  • Support the capacity building of institutional fact-checkers, including training, mentoring, and technical assistance.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous learning within the project team.

 

Employment Type: Fixed Term

 

Duration of Employment: 1 year with a possibility of extension

 

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, mandatory occasional travel

About You

Required Qualiffications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Media Studies, Communication, Social Studies, Medicine or a related field.
  • At least 0-2 years of experience in project management, media development, or a relevant field.
  • A strong track record of success in coaching, mentoring, and incubating.
  • Strong understanding of the Ethiopian media landscape and challenges.
  • Proven track record in leading and managing complex projects.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in relevant software, including project management tools and data analysis software.
