Job Description


Population Health and Environment Ethiopia Consortium (PHE-EC) is a non- governmental non-for-profit organization established in 2008. The consortium was established with a vision “to see Ethiopia with a sustainable use of resources, resilient ecosystems, sustainable livelihoods, and a healthy population. The organization has also a mission “to contribute to sustainable development in Ethiopia by promoting and enhancing the integration of population, health and environment through multi-sectoral approaches.

PHE-EC, in partnership with SOS Children’s Villages Ethiopia and the German Foundation for World Population (DSW) Ethiopia, is launching a new EU-funded project called “Practice Peace and Live in Tranquility“. The project’s goal is to sustainably reduce recurring conflicts by addressing the decreasing livelihood options caused by conflicts and limited natural resources. The project employs social behavioral change and communication strategies, promotes inter-communal resource use consensus, builds indigenous conflict resolution capacities, involves local government actors, and conducts evidence-based advocacy and community-wide behavioral change activities.

Currently, PHE-EC is looking for qualified and high caliber person for the position of Project Coordinator that meets the requirements listed below.

Key Responsibilities     

  •  Develop and implement project plans, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Coordinate project activities, including fieldwork, data collection, and analysis.
  •  Manage project budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources and cost-effective implementation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and partner organizations.
  • Monitor and evaluate project progress, providing regular updates to the Partnership and Business Development Manager.
  • Identify and address potential risks and challenges, developing mitigation strategies.
  • Prepare reports, proposals, and other documentation as required.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and best practices

DUTY STATION:

  •   Meiso with field travel to Woredas in West Harergei zone of Oromia, Shinilee zone of Somale and Zone 3 of Afar Region.

Salary – 

  • As per the organization scale

About You

Required Qualifications     

  • BSC degree in Natural Resource Management, Range land management, Pastoral land Management, Water Shade Development or other related fields;
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant field experience in project coordination or a similar role.
  • A deep understanding  and strong knowledge of Natural Resource Management (NRM), Participatory range land Management (PRM), Watershed Management, and rangeland conservation practices;
  • Experienced in working with pastoral communities , inter and intra community conflict induced by rangeland management, or in any natural resource based conflict management practice;
  • Conflict management for food security and knowledge of existing situations in  pastoral areas
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills;
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated excellent analytical, writing, and reporting skills;
  • Extensive computer skills including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Proficiency in speaking and understanding Afan Oromo, Somali, and Afar languages is considered an advantage.
