Job Description


World Vision Ethiopia began its first intervention in Ethiopia in 1971 with relief and opened the Ethiopia office in 1975. Relief, rehabilitation and small community development projects dominated the decade that followed. During the 1984/85 drought, World Vision Ethiopia participated in a massive relief operation that saved the lives of millions of people.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and leading the planning, implementation, monitoring and scaling up of Burqa Initiative phase II ‘water balancing, carbon sequestration and livelihood project’ through leading stakeholders’ engagements, reduce environmental degradation; increase water balance gain; increase carbon sequestration, improve livelihood of the target community, improve institutionalization of water balancing and institutionalization.
  • Coordinate and ensure setting up/strengthening sub-water shade/Kebele/Woreda/Zonal level Burqa initiative Steering Committee composed of Administration, Office of Agriculture, Office of NRM, Office of Water Resource, Office of Cooperative/Marketing, Office of WYC, Farmers Representative, MFI and private partners   and ensure the program governance and structure executed by being secretariat
  • Work closely with Acacia Water Consult for water balancing details and also work closely with FORLIANCE GmbH consultant for carbon sequestration.
  • Lead effectively and efficiently the Burqqa Initiative in line with ensuring the project budget and other resources are utilized in an efficient way to bring intended outputs, outcomes and impact.
  • ·Coordinate and carry out collection of carbon stock monitoring, water quality test, & bird survey data from the field level permanent sample plots, yearly stove monitoring, functionality & thermal efficiency test preparing data monitoring sheets, and ensure that data-collection protocols, A/R CDM PDD and A/R OMP, PoA & CPADDs are fully adhered to
  • Coordinate and ensure setting up/strengthening sub-watershade/Kebele/Woreda/Zonal level Burqa initiative Steering Committee composed of Administration, Office of Agriculture, Office of NRM, Office of Water Resource, Office of Cooperative/Marketing, Office of WYC, Farmers Representative, MFI and private partners   and ensure the program governance and structure executed by being secretariat
  • Facilitate and engage the stakeholders in participatory assessments to identify potentials, problems and development opportunities of project interventions,
  • Facilitate capacity building training (skills training on seed collection & drying, marketing, FMNR contribution to soil fertility improvement, production & profitability, business idea development, business plan preparation implementation monitoring and evaluation) and facilitate co-learning
  • Ensure the project outcomes listed below achieved:
  • Work closely with Acacia Water Consult and Forliance Consult for water balancing details, carbon sequestration and lead the implementation of the program to improve livelihood of the residents through communal land management, on-farm integrated water harvesting, environmental protection, appropriate soil and water conservation practice, improved vegetation cover, improved access to safe and drinking water, increased context based potential value chain development, public private partnerships and ensure duplication of efforts and resources
  • Provide leadership and ensure the targeted communities identify suitable commodities; develop skills in alternative income source and increase income from on and off farm activities
  • Submit monthly, quarterly, bi annual and annual reports to AP, concerned GO (if needed) & HO based Burqa initiative team with quality and on time
  • Create strong Networking and partnership with all relevant Woreda, Zonal and sometimes Regional GO, FBO, Research, University, MFI and relevant stakeholders with regard to the program
  • Coordinate/engage in the documentation of successful experiences, promising practices and lesson learned events and facilitate scaling up
  • Represent Burqa Initiative in meeting and forums & also perform other duties as designated by the AP & Program Manager to support the smooth operations and functioning of the program
  • Lead the preparation/revision of detailed annual activity vs finance, purchase and other required plan and execute.

Required Professional Experience

  • At least 6 years working experience in an Water shade Management, Natural Resource Management & Environment Management
  • Has served in a management/coordination capacity for at least 2 year
  • Having a clear understanding of major donors’ perspectives, requirements and standards
  • Must have proven analytical/ problem solving abilities
  • Preferably able to write & speak local language
  • Experiences in computer words, excel and other facilities management
  • Effective in written and Verbal communication in English.
  • Motor Bike Driving license is as an additional requirement

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

  • University degree preferably M.Sc in Water shade Management, Natural Resource Management & Environment Management and related fields

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Excellent interpersonal skills – builds good relationships with internal and external stakeholders and maintain effective collaboration with all staff
  • Appropriate skills and experience in the capacity building and training of staff and partners;
  • Rich experience in handling productive meeting
  • Rich experience communication
  • Experience in monitoring and evaluation;
  • Excellent experience in proposal development, budget preparation and report writing;
  • Good knowledge of oral and written English language.
  • Experience in report writing and presentation to different stakeholders

Travel and/or Work Environment

Requirement

Primarily the project coordinator is assigned to work at the designated districts and can be allocate to the other project site.

Physical Requirements

Travel by road, flexibility with accommodation and dietary arrangements. Ability to partake in on-location production or live events.

Language Requirements

Fluency: Amharic and Oromifa and English is required
Working knowledge: professional English language required

Other local languages are beneficial
