Project Overview And Role

USAID CATALYZE Ethiopia: MS4G is designed to benefit the Ethiopian people, build community resilience, and strengthen rural-urban linkages, in the areas of food security and WASH. MS4G invests in developing strong relationships with private sector players, co-investing in inclusive business models, advisory services, digital solutions, and market-based initiatives that increase the resilience and sustainability of Ethiopian enterprises and employment for women and youth.

CATALYZE MS4G uses a market systems approach to address key food security and WASH sub-system areas and the impact of economic shocks, including COVID-19 and political instability by stimulating adoption, adaptation, broad expansion, and responsive institutionalization and scaling of approaches and business models to transform the lives of Ethiopians.

MS4G is seeking a well-organized and self-motivated individual for the position of Program Support Intern. Ideal candidates will have exceptional writing, formatting, and administrative skills.

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

The internship position is responsible to support the overall program areas within various units at MS4G. It requires learning and understanding tasks within each area including all components of Workforce Development, Enterprise Development, WASH, Digital Economy, Business Enabling Environment, Investment, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, Finance, Trade and to interact with other parts of the business.

In addition, the intern is expected to contribute to other projects. Some projects will be one-time activities. Other projects will be ongoing with varying degrees of frequency. Frequent professional communication and interaction with internal and external customers to complete jobs is required.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Problem definition, research, data collection, analysis to determine best processes and methods for problem-solving.
  • Leadership/ ownership of assigned project(s) .
  • Create, input, format and update a variety of projects and reports.
  • Regular and clear communication with manager and internal and external team members on status of assigned project(s).
  • Distribute timely and accurate work.
  • Maintain files and generate status information.
  • Show professionalism in all skills.
  • Identify areas for improvement within current department processes.
  • Administrative tasks, other projects as assigned.
  • Occasional cross-departmental training and project work with other interns.
  • Effective time management skills to meet deadlines on multiple tasks, projects and priorities.
  • Professional and positive attitude.

Person specification

Education: BA or MA in Law, Finance, Sociology, Social Work, economics, agriculture, or related fields of social sciences.

Desired technical skills

  • Proficient English both written and verbal
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, especially oral communication
  • Dynamic and energetic
  • Good understanding of gender mainstreaming, child safeguarding and GBV concepts
  • Demonstrated experience in computer skills including use and understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access.
