Pharo Ventures is the commercial, for profit arm of The Pharo Foundation and has been set up to harness the power of a vibrant private sector by investing in enterprises across a variety of sectors within the Eastern Africa region. Pharo Integrated Agriculture and Manufacturing PLC is one of the companies established under the umbrella of Pharo Ventures Ethiopia. The objective of Pharo Ventures is to build and grow commercially and environmentally sustainable businesses with a focus on maximising creation of economic value and jobs, for local communities.
We have a vision of an economically vibrant and inclusive Africa. Matching this vision is our ambition to create portfolio of sustainable business ventures that by the end of 2025 will deliver more than five thousand direct jobs across the region. We believe we can achieve our ambitions by investing in the human and physical capital of Africa. For each target country in the region, Pharo Ventures will innovatively build portfolio of businesses that will be financially sustainable, create value for the local communities and will be environmentally responsible.

Our Plans

Our strategy is to invest/build 6 – 7 ventures that create 2,000 – 3,000 jobs in the next 5 – 6 years. The businesses we select have further impact criteria such as import substitution, value addition and social impact, be environmentally sustainable and should have the ability to generate income for local communities. Some sectors are priority areas for us, both due to high local demand and social impact, which puts agriculture and food processing on top of the list.

Currently, we are working on two exciting ventures:

  1. A 482Ha commercial farm in Benishangul Gumuz Regional State and
  2. An agro-processing facility to be located close to Debre Birhan

Headquartered in Nairobi, Pharo Ventures has operational offices in Ethiopia (Addis Ababa), and Somaliland (Hargeisa).

The role holder will be responsible for the planning and execution of all types of procurement for Pharo Ventures and its portfolio companies. S/he will work closely with departmental heads and budget holders in procuring needed goods/services for the intended programs, support country and field offices in securing quality goods and services on time and at competitive prices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement the Pharo Ventures procurement policy and procedures which also includes building the procurement processes;
  • Work closely with the Finance Managers of each of the ventures and other colleagues to ensure smooth, transparent and timely procurement of goods and services
  • Consolidate and prepare procurement plans from all departments, coordinate with procurement committees for timely execution;
  • Review completeness of purchase request forms (specifications, delivery date, etc.) before processing;
  • Collect quotations, prepare price analysis, and check the supplier quotations against the agreed

Terms Of References;

  • Act as the custodian for any conflict of interest matters and address these in a timely manner;
  • Review quotations and confirm supplier eligibility, validity of legal documents and pertinent information in the quotations;
  • Place orders, collect goods and facilitate supplier payments;
  • Prepare and update weekly procurement trackers and share with budget holders;
  • Develop appropriate price databases in consultation with procurement committees;
  • Maintain procurement files in an organized and traceable manner;
  • Provide capacity building to Field office colleagues and procurement committees;
  • Draft contract agreements for management review; and
  • Any other related duties as may be assigned by the line manager from time to time.

Reporting to: Operations and Finance Lead

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor degree in logistics, procurement and supply chain management, accounting, business management, or any other related fields;
  • Minimum of 4 years relevant experience in similar organizations;
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines;
  • Successful and proven experience in managing multiple tasks in a modern busy office environment;;
  • Advanced skill in using MS Office programs; and
  • Excellent communication skills and teamwork, with the ability to build good relations, both internally and externally.

  • Strong procurement professional with a solid pedigree and experience of setting up centres of excellence within the procurement function;
  • Respect and understands the local culture and values and yet embraces and can work within international work ethics and standards;
  • Problem solving and creative thinking skills including the ability to get results in unstructured environments, solid record of accomplishment for growing businesses and implementing best practices, policies and processes;
  • Self-assured, internally motivated and passionate individual with outstanding communication skills driven to succeed and make a difference; and
  • Must possess high levels of integrity, resilience, accountability, commitment and determination.
