Job Overview:

IRC is looking for a well experienced person who can be able to train our program team in Problem Management Plus (PM+) intervention and methodology which was drafted by the World Health Organization. PM+ is a mental health package designed to provide psychosocial support to individuals facing distress and mild to moderate mental health conditions.

Description of the Consultancy

The consultant will utilize the PM+ training package to train IRC mental health professionals and non-specialist mental healthcare providers to deliver PM+, in addition, ensure that participants attain the basic helping skills while delivering PM+.

The target audience will be IRC’s mental health professionals, RRS and local primary healthcare (PHC) partners.

Major Responsibilities:

The trainer will be responsible for assessing the capacity and the quality of the trainees, develop a supervision and follow up plan for the team and prepare a final report on the training as well as what needs to be improved for the current implementation of PM+.

The consultant, when selected, is expected to:

  • Develop a detailed training plan, agenda, and materials for the training.
  • Deliver the training using different appropriate training techniques, mainly case presentations, group discussion, role plays, video demonstrations, and facilitator demonstrations.
  • Prepare and present the write-up of the training material adapted to the target audience and local context, mainly pre- and post-tests, competency assessment forms, and evaluation forms.
  • Assessing participants’ knowledge and skills through pre and post training evaluation.
  • Facilitating practical exercise, case discussions, and role-plays to enhance participants understanding and skills.
  • Providing ongoing support and guidance to participants during the training.
  • Follow up supervision for the trainees following the training.

Job Requirements:

Educational Requirements:

  • Should have at least a master’s degree in counseling psychology, Mental health, and related fields.

Preferred experience & skills:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in facilitating Problem Management Plus (PM+) for organization employees.
  • Proven experience in conducting Trainers programs, preferably mental health, and psychosocial support.
  • Experience in working with development partners in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support.
  • Understanding Problem Management Plus methodology.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of WHO PM+ intervention and its training guide.
  • Strong facilitation and training skills, with the ability to engage and motivate participants.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal.

Reporting and Supervision:

The consultant will report to the Health and Nutrition Manager and Senior MHPSS officer.

NB: Regular communication and progress updates will be required throughout the consultancy period.

Evaluation:

The consultant’s performance will be evaluated based on the quality and timely delivery of the agreed-upon deliverables, participant feedback, and overall adherence to the consultancy’s terms of reference.

Language Skills:

  •  Fluency in English and Amharic.

Certificates or Licenses:

  •  Training of trainers (ToT) certificate on problem management plus (PM+) training.

  • A more elaborate methodology that the consultant will utilize and the proposed training plan.
  • A financial proposal that should not be longer than one page.
