EXTERNAL VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity of victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence and to provide them with assistance.

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Ethiopia is looking to hire an experienced, highly motivated and qualified person to fill the position of Nutritionist 2 (1 year fixed term contract), based in Mekelle.

GENERAL DUTIES

  • Understands and adheres to the 7 Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement.
  • Understands and adheres to the ICRC Code of Conduct.
  • Understands the three components of the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement.
  • Respects and observes staff regulations and security rules at all times.
  • Represents the ICRC in a professional manner at all time.
  • Develops and maintains a pleasant and conducive working environment with colleagues and line managers.
  • Performs all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the ICRC.
  • May be asked to perform duties and tasks not covered in this job description as well as to provide support to other departments when necessary.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Working under supervision and with support from the Nutritionist 3, has most of the following responsibilities.
  • Actively contributes to designs, plans and implements a nutrition assessment (based on standard and recognized methods) and rapid methods adapted to objectives, the context and the resources available.
  • Actively involves in data Collection using data-collection tools and devices.
  • Performs mid-level qualitative and quantitative data analysis.
  • Contributes to describes results and produces data visualizations.
  • Contributes in Analysing the food system and households’ nutrition situation.
  • Provides nutrition-related input to food-system analysis.
  • Interprets basic quantitative and qualitative data analysis.
  • Actively contributes to analyse data collected using the household economy approach to identify economic security gaps and develop scenarios.
  • Interprets market information and uses it to select and design response options.
  • Collects nutrition information at the household level.
  • Based on an analysis of EcoSec core components (food consumption/production, living conditions, income support and capacity-building) identifies nutrition-related response options and assesses whether cash or in-kind aid is more appropriate and feasible.
  • Integrates best practice in terms of accountability to beneficiaries throughout the programme-cycle design.
  • Identifies, designs and supervises activities aimed at restoring, protecting and improving beneficiaries’ food consumption and nutritional status, including in places of detention.
  • Contributes to analysing the security, socioeconomic, cultural and political environment as it relates to the ICRC.
  • Contributes nutrition-related input to the delegation and EcoSec Unit’s strategic approaches and activities, including during annual planning.
  • Takes part in expanding or strengthening the delegation’s network of contacts among the population, the local authorities and/or other stakeholders.
  • Contributes to internal reporting.
  • Contributes to organizing and providing capacity-building activities.
  • Supervises, coaches, guides, supports to ERCS.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Contributes to the analysis of the security, socio-economic, cultural and political environment and shares the relevant information with the respective field management and technical supervisor.
  • Reports events and changes within the region that could have an impact on ICRC’s activities and hence provides sound elements to the Delegation that allow to establish objectives and priorities.
  • Participates actively in meetings linked to the program implementation in his AoR
  • Advises on culture, politics, general situation and share relevant information related to the context.
  • Updates his superiors on the ongoing and planned assistance activities of other humanitarian actors in his AoR.
  • Acts as reference point during delegate’s/supervisor’s absences.
  • Presents synthesis of problematic succinctly and accurately.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutritional science or public health, or equivalent work experience.
  • Excellent command of English and depending on work location; other languages an asset.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite, SharePoint and IBM Lotus Notes.
  • Enterprise Content Management certification.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar position with tasks of the above nature.
  • Ability to make personal work plans and work with a degree of autonomy.
  • Able to multitask, attentive to detail and client focused.
  • Good interpersonal skills, teamwork and collaboration.
