Job Description

Summary

The current emergency of Afar region is worsening from time to time due to recurrent hazards of conflict, drought and others which is increasing the number of children at risk for acute malnutrition.

In addition to this, as per the current hot spot woredas classification 97% of the woredas are revised under the hot spot priority one category. This shows the woredas are under critical food insecurity and susceptible to different emergencies.

In response to those, we should strengthen emergency nutrition interventions through deploying additional human resources that can support the existing diverse response mechanisms.

The objective is to assist the conflict and drought induced Nutrition emergency in the emergency region and in the internally displaced peoples’ sites and woredas and support the nutrition programme to build their capacity and improve quality of services.

Responsibilities

The intern will support in undertaking the following tasks:

  • Undertakes on going visits to assess local conditions and resources, monitors UNICEF inputs for the nutrition activities and communicates with local counterpart authorities
  • Collects and analyses nutrition data for regional situation analysis, nutrition and food security programme planning, management, and monitoring,
  • Technical support to strength emergency nutrition intervention and roll out in the region with government and nongovernment organizations in providing partners.
  • Supports follow up of nutrition programme implementation
  • Undertakes follow up action on programme implementation activities in the region, contributes teamwork building,
  • Attends technical cooperation meetings, prepares notes, and undertakes follow up action and coordination related to nutrition programme implementation and monitoring.
  • Attends in identification and selection of technical inputs, technical assistance, supplies, and equipment,
  • Selects and compiles training and orientation materials for those involved in programme implementation. facilitate regional nutrition capacity building trainings and orientations.

Requirements

  • He /she should be enrolled at a university at the undergraduate or graduate level or be a recent graduate in Public Health, Health, Nutrition, public health, or related field is required.
  • Knowledge of relevant computer systems and applications such as MS Office.
  • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills.
  • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team.
  • Flexible and open to learning and new experiences.
  • Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures and working environments.
  • Fluency in English is required.
