Job Description


RESPONSIBILITIES

The Officer’s responsibilities include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Identify, assess and manage projects in the above-mentioned field in accordance with procedures provided by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida);
  • Engage in policy dialogue with cooperation partners;
  • Participate in consultations and coordination with donor groups;
  • Participate in all regular activities of the regional section and the Embassy, including planning, monitoring and reporting, as well as other issues when required;

The tasks to be undertaken require a certain amount of travel, mainly within Africa, as well as coordination with colleagues at Sida in Stockholm and at other Swedish Embassies in Africa

Job Requirement

Required qualifications:

  • Documented academic degree in Economics, Business Administration, Law or related fields, minimum at Master’s level, with direct relevance for regional economic integration and trade;
  • Fluency in English (both oral and written);
  • Extensive experience of working with computer programmes, applications, and systems.

Required work experience:

  • At least five years documented experience of work related to Inclusive Economic development, regional economic integration and international and/or intra-African trade, preferably in an African continental or regional context; and
  • At least five years documented experience of managing donor-funded programmes and projects in a development cooperation context, including legal aspects related to agreements and financial follow-up.

Additional qualifications considered as merits are:

  • Proven capacity to work independently, take leadership of processes, manage programmes and budgets, create relevant professional networks and to conduct dialogue and negotiations with partners and colleagues;
  • A team-player with good communication skills;
  • A results-oriented approach to work as well as practical experience from Results Based Management (RBM);
  • A good understanding of the African continental and sub-regional institutional structure (African Union, Regional Economic Communities (RECs) etc), as well as policies and legal frameworks;
  • Experience from institutional capacity building programmes and/or African regional integration & cooperation programmes;
  • Experience of work with or within multilateral institutions or regional economic communities such as AU, AfDB, EAC, COMESA, ECOWAS, SADC, IGAD, and the UN system;
  • Experience of work outside Ethiopia, especially in other parts of Africa;
  • Expertise and experience related to food security related to trade as well as trade facilitation;
  • Experience in risk assessment and anti-corruption;
  • Good command of French (both oral and written);
  • Swedish language skills

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The vacancy is a local position, full-time, starting with a probation period of six months with the possibility of permanent employment.  An individual salary system is applied. Embassy of Sweden is an equal opportunities employer.
