Purpose of the post

Join our team to provide support implementation of Adolescent and Maternal nutrition progamme (planning, implementation, coordination, and monitoring of Adolescent and Maternal nutrition programme).

Scope of Work:

UNICEF provides technical, advocacy and financial support to the government’s National Nutrition strategy with an aim to influence policies, strengthen delivery of nutrition services, promote positive behaviors and eventually, improve the nutrition status of children, adolescents, and women.

Among the key programmes supported under the National Nutrition strategy is Adolescent and Maternal Nutrition which are the critical components to curb the intergenerational cycle of malnutrition. Over the last couple of years UNICEF has been intensively supporting Ethiopia’s adolescent and maternal nutrition programme for various type interventions including micronutrient supplementation for women and adolescent girls, SBC on healthy diet/lifestyle and school nutrition interventions. Since then, the programme has grown significantly, to become one of the largest UNICEF-supported programme in the country with huge recognition from government of Ethiopia.

UNICEF ECO nutrition section intends to recruit a nutrition consultant for seven months, to ensure continuity of programmes as well as support to MoH and other ministries as required. The nutrition consultant will mainly be working with UNICEF team focusing on implementation and adolescent and maternal nutrition interventions. The consultant is expected to have a considerable experience in designing and implementation of adolescent and maternal nutrition programmes as well as the experience of working with Ministry of Health (MoH) and other ministries as relevant.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s or higher) in Public health Nutrition, public health epidemiology, food and nutritional sciences or related technical field is required.
  • A minimum of 5 [Five] years of relevant professional experience in the nutrition and health programming in developing countries’ context.
  • Demonstrated experience in producing documents, proposals, and reports for a resource partners, including UN agencies.
  • Good understanding of adolescent and Maternal nutrition interventions, and experience in designing programmes and community-based nutrition/ health interventions programming in Ethiopia.
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Good knowledge of the application of the equity lens and human rights perspectives to programming.
  • Good ability to support translation of analytical findings and evidence into a cohesive narrative.
  • Sound negotiation skills and ability to collaborate with different stakeholders
  • Experience in implementing nutrition research and programs will be considered an asset 
  • Advanced computer literacy is expected in Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
