Job Description


The Save the Children Fund, commonly known as Save the Children, was established in the United Kingdom in 1919 to improve the lives of children through better education, health care, and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in natural disasters, war, and other conflicts. After passing a century, which it celebrated in 2019, it is now a global movement made up of 29 national member organizations which work in 120 countries.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Mobile Health Officer.

Dimensions: Save the Children works in Ethiopia with a current staff complement of approximately 2500 staff and a current expenditure of approximately $100+ million each year.

Staff directly reporting to this post: None.

In line with SCI’s dual mandate, these key areas of accountability apply to Save the Children in Ethiopia’s work in emergencies (acute and chronic) and in development settings.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Provide basic health and nutrition services including community ANC,PNC/ FP, IMNCI/ICCM, safe motherhood, emergency services, referral, health education, EPI as per MOH Mobile health and nutrition guideline
  • Facilitate essential drugs, supplies and therapeutic products for the team and the selected health facilities
  • Facilitate training and work closely with MOH staffs at Health posts, Health centre and hospital and district level.
  • Organize daily, weekly and monthly over view and reports of ANC, FP & EPI, health education and consultations.
  • Ensure referral system and linkage between services and with the health facilities
  • Adherence to medical and nutritional treatment protocols and procedures for children and infants.
  • Provide onsite training to HEW and nurses.
  • Ensure Job aids are available in Health posts (HEW quick reference,
  • Look up table, report format, tally sheet, Plumpnut and drug stock control balance form)
  • Receive weekly reports from HEW at weekly basis, cross check the completeness and accuracy and submit to Woreda MHNT officers.
  • Mentoring and assist HEW in decision of patients who are at severe risks and need to be transferred to nearby hospital
  • Participate in capacity building training, in health education sessions and ENA/BCC application
  • Follow up absentees/defaulters and keep current record of both beneficiaries and the staff (CHAs, volunteers).
  • Work any tasks assigned by the line manager and the organization.
  • Provides technical reports on emergency health and nutrition for strengthening surveillance and public health emergency management.
  • Participates in responses to public emergencies (disaster, outbreaks).
  • Reports updates on humanitarian situations on implementation areas.
  • Reports any problems in a timely manner to the project coordinator.
  • Control and facilitate vehicle movement within the project area in the field.
  • Upholds the image and values of SC at all times.
  • Performs other related tasks as required.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma/ Bachelor in Midwifery Minimum four years of working experience with NGOs out of which two years in Mobile Health Midwife Settings.
  • Knowledge, training, and experience in the updated ANC/PNC/ICCM/IMNCI/New-born care/ counselling
  • Demonstrated skills in program planning, implementation, and monitoring.
  • Demonstrated skills in peer group training, Training of Trainers, and development of training materials.
  • Strong computer (Microsoft skills), and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Good command of written and spoken English and Local language (Mandatory).
  • Good human relations skills.
  • Respect Save the Children rules by anyone visiting the program;
  • Willingness to work under pressure and extra hours
