The Medical Laboratory Technologist is responsible for conducting laboratory tests that assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This role involves performing tests with accuracy, maintaining laboratory equipment, and ensuring quality control to deliver reliable results. At Addis Ababa Silk Road General Hospital, the technologist will play a critical role in supporting patient care through precise and timely laboratory services.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Collect, process, and analyze biological specimens (blood, urine, etc.).
• Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests.
• Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment.
• Maintain accurate records and report test results to healthcare providers.
• Adhere to safety protocols and quality standards in the laboratory.
• Performs a variety of clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, microbiology, serology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis
• Performs Conjunctive Swab culture and corneal scraping smear examinations
• Performs regular microbiological surveillance of operation theatre
• Report test results following clinic protocols alerting providers and/or nurses about abnormal results.
• Ensure quality control in collecting specimens, ensure appropriate sampling and maintain accurate record keeping.
• Set up, maintain, calibrate, clean, and test sterility of medical laboratory equipment.
• Comply with all laboratory policies and regulations related to safety, cleanliness and infection control.
•  Perform all other duties as assigned.
• Perform work accurately and thoroughly.
• Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
•  Verifies patient information and accurately records all information in EMR system according to established standards.
• Maintain patient, team member and employer confidentiality.
• Ability to meet patients and others needs while following office policies and procedures.

• Attend weekly team meetings and be prepared to present findings and observations.
