Job Description


Kurmuk Gold Mine Plc (KGM) is a subsidiary of Allied Gold Corp which is a global company with offices in Dubai, UAE and Perth, Australia and has different mine projects in Mali, cote d’ivoire as well as Ethiopia. KGM is the Ethiopian project with a Large-Scale Gold Mining License and three contiguous Exploration Licenses. All licenses are located in western Ethiopia approximately 750 km from Addis Ababa, or about 90 km north-west of Assosa town in Benishangul Gumuze Regional State.

KGM has been using foreign consultants and local professional support staff to carry out all the exploration and mining activities. The company currently has created job opportunity for more than 200 Ethiopians and expects to employ 1,500 people during the construction and operation of the mining activities.

Summary

KGM would like to invite competent, energetic, and qualified applicants for the following vacancy announcement.

Brief outline of duties:

Designing, building, supervising, operating, and maintaining large construction projects and systems, such as roads, airports, buildings, tunnels, bridges, water supply, drainage systems, dams, and other activities to support gold mining and exploration projects of the company.

1.1. Main duties and responsibilities

  • Supervise and monitor the mining civil infrastructure works.
  • Review the previous data / reports pertaining to the mining civil infrastructure works and advice if any modifications considered necessary.
  • Check suitability of borrow areas and quarry areas provided in the contract and proposed by contractor
  • Investigations of new sources of materials
  • Assist in establishing quality assurance system
  • Assess the quantity of materials likely to be available and haul distance to the site
  • Inspect, investigate, approve and advise on sources of materials and determine their suitability for various components of the works- embankments, pavements, surfacing and structure
  • Conducting all necessary and advisable inspection, sampling, testing and analysis for compliance with the Technical Specification for Soil and Construction materials proposed.
  • Back slope material type identification, testing and slope stability measurement, and preparation of remedial measure for unstable grounds.
  • Involve in setting up of field laboratory.
  • Check and stream line procedure for field and laboratory testing of soil samples and other construction materials as well as the analysis of the results and their interpretations.

Duty Station: – Benshangul Gumuz, Asosa Zone, Kurmuk Woreda Project Site – Fly In/Fly out roster (6/2weeks)

Job Requirements

Education: BSc in Civil Engineering or related fields

Skills:

  • Planning and organizing skills
  • Strong technical, math, and science skills
  • Familiarity with design software, such as Autodesk, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and MicroStation.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a high level of accuracy in calculations and design.
  • Excellent time management skills to ensure project deadlines are met.
  • Ability to coordinate more than one project at a time

Work Experience:  Senior level (6+ year work experience in same position on road projects as Material Engineer -,Material title approved testimony from Ethiopian Roads authority (ERA) for CV is required).
