Job Description


Action for Social Development and Environmental Protection Organization (ASDEPO) is an Ethiopian indigenous, “Civil Society Organization” established in 2014. ASDEPO is mandated to operate in all regional states of the country and is engaged indifferent thematic program areas of intervention namely: Humanitarian Response, Education, Health, Women and Youth Economic Empowerment, Gender Based Violence and Child Protection, Migration/Human Trafficking, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), NTD’s Climate Change, Agriculture, Environmental Protection and Training in Gambella, Oromiya, Amhara, Benishangul Gumuz, Afar, SNNPR and Somali Region.

Job Summary

The livestock officer, will support the day-to-day results-based implementation of its livestock based activities. Under the direct supervision of the agriculture program Coordinator, the livestock officer will work closely with ASDEPO Project team at Head office and will work closely Project field office staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, implementation, monitoring, review, and evaluation of Livestock activities
  • Develop a detailed project work plan guiding the project activities implementation and regularly update to monitor project progress towards effective project management.
  • Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, quarterly activity plans and reports of the project, and submit to his/her supervisor on time.
  • Provide technical support in the Design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the livestock based project activities.
  • Responsible for overseeing implementation of livestock support project activities in accordance with approved time schedules, budgets.
  • Plan, facilitate, and conduct training in conceptual understanding of animal health support and capacity building for field staff, government staff and stakeholders.
  • Regularly, participate on Agriculture cluster meeting and other coordination platform
  • Prepare and submit status reports as required by management or donors
  • Ensure that project implementation meet the quality assurance and standards and documented processes
  • Develop and implement surveys and needs assessments in IDP, refugee camps and host communities.
  • Record and document field achievements, innovations, failures, and lessons learned to integrate into project activities and inform project strategy.
  • Develop ideas and provide technical direction for technical improvement of Livestock related projects
  • Liaise and collaborate with donors, relevant federal, regional and local authorities and other key stakeholders.
  • Support, follow up & monitor implementation all livestock related projects and identified activities as per the plans.
  • Perform other assignments given

Reports to: Agriculture Program Coordinator

Career Level: Mid-Level (2+ – 5 years’ experience)

Contract duration: One-year contract (with 60 working days probation period)

Job Requirements

Experience

  • BSc degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, Animal Health, Animal production/ Livestock production or other related field
  • Vast experience in Agriculture based emergency intervention.
  • Minimum of 5-years’ working experience with humanitarian program in the fields of Livestock support at project level with at least 1 years’ experience engaging emergency interventions.
  • Excellent command of the most common methodologies to identify, assess and monitor livestock support activities, with proven record of achievements
  • Skilled trainer with experience developing and delivering training to a varied audience, such as project staff, stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analysis skills (qualitative and qualitative)
  • Good understanding of complex emergencies and crisis contexts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Desirable : NGO experience is mandatory
