Job Description


Good Neighbors (GN) is a global NGO founded in Korea in 1991, currently operating in 50 countries. Since 1997, the Ethiopian branch has been committed to improving lives through initiatives in child protection, education, health, and more. Good Neighbors Ethiopia (GNE) operates in various regions of Ethiopia, including Addis Ababa, Amhara, Oromia, Tigray, Benishangul Gumuz, Somali, Sidama, South Ethiopia, and Central Ethiopia. Good Neighbors Ethiopia is now launching a new project in Benishangul Gumuz, funded by UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees), aimed to Increased number of FDPs are engaged in sustainable livelihood and economic opportunities.

Good Neighbors Ethiopia (GNE) is seeking a qualified individual to join our team on the position of livelihood Officer (Crop Production)

  • Reports to: Project Coordinator
  • Term of Employment: Fixed term 11 months.
  • Duty Station(s): Assosa Project office with frequent field travel.
  • Required Number: One (1)
  • Salary & Benefits: as perthe scale of the organization

Job Summary: The Livelihood Officer (Crop Production) will play a crucial role in the successful implementation of agricultural projects within refugee and host communities. This position will focus on providing technical guidance, supporting farmers in improving their agricultural practices, and ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of program activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Support:
    • Provide technical guidance and training to farmers on improved agricultural practices, including:
      • Crop selection and variety improvement
      • Soil and water management (e.g., irrigation, water harvesting)
      • Integrated pest and disease management
      • Fertilizer and manure application
      • Post-harvest handling and storage
    • Conduct regular field visits to monitor crop growth, identify challenges, and provide on-the-spot technical assistance.
  • Program Implementation:
    • Assist in the planning and implementation of agricultural activities, including:
      • Seed and input distribution
      • Farmer field schools and demonstrations
      • Market linkages and value chain development
      • Infrastructure development (where applicable)
    • Ensure the timely and accurate recording of all program activities and data.
  • Community Engagement:
    • Build strong relationships with farmers, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
    • Facilitate participatory planning and decision-making processes.
    • Address community concerns and resolve any conflicts that may arise.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation:
    • Monitor the progress of agricultural activities and collect data on program outcomes.
    • Conduct regular assessments and evaluations to measure the impact of program interventions.
    • Prepare reports and presentations on program progress and achievements.
  • Capacity Building:
    • Train and mentor local agricultural extension workers and community members.
    • Facilitate knowledge sharing and peer learning among farmers.
  • Accountability
  • Adhere to the GNE Code of Conduct and the zero-tolerance policy for Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (SEA).
  • Ensure accountability to affected populations, uphold humanitarian principles, and contribute to the integration of Protection and Age, Gender, and Diversity (AGD) mainstreaming into GNE programming.
  • Other Duties:
    • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
About You
  • Bachelor’s degree in Plant Science, Agronomy, Agricultural Extension & Rural Development or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in agricultural extension, community development, or a related field.
  • Proven experience working with rural communities, preferably in refugee or humanitarian contexts.
  • Strong understanding of agricultural best practices and sustainable farming techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, data analysis software
  • Fluency in English, local languages spoken in the community.
