Job Description


KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  General Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly familiarizes himself/herself with the vision, mission, values, principles and programs of SC and apply them in his/her day to day work
  • Ensures that LB project which is supported by SCI are planned, implemented and reported in line with the principles, procedures, guidelines and time frame set.
  • Maintains and develops SC’s working relationship with children, community, partner organizations- Regional, Zonal and Woreda Education officials.
  • Initiates horizontal learning and transfer of knowledge to enhance competence and to inject new and creative ideas in to the Education program specifically to LB approach.
  • Establish contacts and strengthens relationships with implementing and strategic partners to best position in SCI.
  • Provides advice, guidance, and facilitate trainings in collaboration with LB project coordinators with regard to activity achievement, fund raising, organizational and human development issues.
  • Develop strategies that would increase the organizational and institutional capacity of coordinators and partners to address more children and bring about significant changes on the lives of children.
  • Ensures that SCI has documented best practices to share experiences, to raise more funds and influence policies, laws and practices for the best interest of children.
  • Initiates and strengthens networks with partners, other relevant organizations to maximize impact on children.
  • Maximize the impact of the project as well as to achieve higher quality. Knowledge sharing will be done through the annual learning sessions / review meetings.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • As Program manager at Save the Children Hawassa field office, he/she is responsible to:
  • Strengthening the integration of LB Approach into the curriculum and improve reading skills of children in primary schools (grade 1-4) in SNNPR and Sidama regions through building teachers’ capacity on LB approach based on SCI’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Prepare annual program/project budget together with coordinators and officers
  • Makes sure that annual plans, budget and reports of partner& donor managed projects are compiled and submitted on time.
  • Ensures links and integration of SC programs for efficient and effective program intervention
  • Ensuring that the target communities in the intervention schools have access to information about resources allocated to their schools and the planned activities.
  • Work with a three-level intervention (National, Regional and Project level) advocacy and campaigns strategy proposed,
  • Implements, monitors and evaluate the LB project in Sidama and SNNPR regional states.
  • Conduct monitoring and evaluation of project activities.
  • Participates in annual Regional state education Bureau Joint Review Meetings;
  • Exchanges information and communication within and outside the organization;
  • Ensures the application and promotion of child participation in the project activities;
  • Documents best practices of project activities and shares with strategic partners and government;
  • Organizes and facilitates training workshops for partners like WEO experts, PTSA, cluster supervisors, school principals, teachers and builds their capacity;
  • Provides technical and professional supports to partners and ensures that their capacities are built to implement project in education.
  • Compiles and writes periodic both financial and activities reports of the program.
  • Advocacy for quality LB approach and scale up by strengthen partnership with the SNNPR regional education bureau and focus on project’s sustainability strategy for ensuring continue primary school children.
  • Ensures implementation of remaining activities of LB project’s evaluation, reporting, member/donor relation and also smooth closeout.
  • Performs other related tasks as required by immediate supervisor.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership or related education field.
  • Experiences as an expert on primary education level is a plus;
  • 8 years of relevant experience preferable in INGO context working on ECCE and Basic education; with at least 4 years in managerial roles.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Highly developed cultural awareness and ability to work well in an international environment with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures
  • Strong results orientation, with the ability to challenge existing mindsets
  • Experience of solving complex issues through analysis, definition of a clear way forward and ensuring buy in
  • Ability to present complex information in a succinct and compelling manner
  • Ability and willingness to dramatically change work practices and hours, and work with incoming surge teams, in the event of emergencies
  • Fluency in Amharic and English language required
