Position Title: Intern ICT

Location: Addis Ababa

Position:  One

Length of Internship:  One Year

Mercy Corps responsibilities

For the duration of this internship assignment, the intern will receive:

  • Work Station
  • All required office supplies
  • Transport Allowance/ 300.00 ETB
  • Per diem during field visit
  • Coverage of lodging expense during field visit
  • Coverage of Transportation expense during field visit

Intern responsibilities

Intern will remain responsible for all costs associated with

·        Transport from/to office

·        Medical and any Insurance

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Mercy Corps Ethiopia seeks enthusiastic, intelligent and ambitious female graduate and post-graduates who are passionate about international development.  This position will provide the intern an opportunity to develop their professional skills and expand their knowledge of market-based and community-driven development while supporting the country IT Department.

The intern will be provided with technical guidance in IT Department and coaching in women’s empowerment and professional skills from a Mentor. At the beginning of the internship period, the intern will receive orientation on Mercy Corps’ mission, vision, strategy and programming.  She will work with her mentor on professional skills development goals, and activities and responsibilities related to achieving these goals; she will also work with the National ICT Specialist on technical skills development goals, and activities and responsibilities related to achieving these goals.

At the end of the internship period, the combined professional and technical skills development plan will be the milestones against which the internship will be evaluated and will be the basis of a strong recommendation letter for future employment.  The intern will also be interviewed to assess the degree to which the internship period helped her to achieve her professional goals.

Job Summary:

The objective of the ICT Intern is to have practical work experience on providing ICT support to Mercy Corps Cisco Network appliances, outlook for e-mail communication, Microsoft, and other operating systems, desktop support and an opportunity to gain experience with the technical operations of nonprofit organization.

This internship will involve challenging opportunities, real technical project, and interaction with staff. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the computer field and field travel is also where Mercy Corps operates.

By the end of the internship, the intern will have developed the following knowledge and experience:

Some of the things he/she will have, or gain is

·        Working as a team in situations where challenges exist.

·        develop problem-solving skills.

·        learn about work ethics.

·        responding to users request and provide solutions

·        Support PC hardware components, desktop operating system software,

·        Assist on antivirus software updates and repair computers infected with spyware, adware and/or viruses.

·        Perform minor repairs to equipment and arrange for other servicing needs

DELIVERABLES:  There are number of new initiatives coming from Head Quarter that has to be rolled out in all field offices including Addis office.  To complete with in the given period of time assistant ICT personal is required.

Job Requirements

IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD POSSESS THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum academic score of 2.5
  • Completed courses in international development, management, business administration or field related to social sciences with minimum score of
  • One letter of recommendation from a professor on the candidate’s academic performance
  • One letter of recommendation from a non-family member on the candidate’s personal integrity and sense of responsibility.

LIVING CONDITIONS: The internship should be based in the intern’s home location.

Mercy Corps interns and volunteers represent the agency both during and outside of work hours and are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner and respect local laws, customs and MC’s policies, procedures, and values at all times and in all in-country venues.
