Background:
Imagine1day is an international NGO working in the development and humanitarian sector. The organization began its operation in 2007. It is registered as a Canadian Charity Organization in Ethiopia with its main objective is all Ethiopian children will have access to quality education free of foreign aid. Currently, it is working in Oromia, South Ethiopia, South West Ethiopia, Central Ethiopia, Sidama, Afar, Amhara, Benishangul Gumuze, and Tigray. It has been massively investing in education development to improve access and quality of pre-primary and primary education by contributing to national and regional efforts through innovative models of connecting stakeholders and development partners.
The Inclusive Humanitarian Organization (IHO), formerly known as the Charity Association of Education and Training Services for Persons with Disabilities (CAETSPD), is a local charity established under Ethiopian Charities and Societies Proclamation No. 621/2009. Re-registered on June 13, 2022, with Registration No. 3665, IHO operates in accordance with the Civil Society Organizations Proclamation No. 1113/2019. Our mission is to foster an inclusive society wherein women, girls, children, and persons with disabilities can thrive as productive, self-reliant, and independent citizens, free from abuse, harm, and discrimination.
These two partnering Organizations, with financial support from UNICEF/FCDO, are going to implement the project titled “Technical Assistance to Access Basic Education Services for Conflict-Affected Out-of-School Children in East Wollega, West Wollega, and North Shewa Zones of Oromia Region” (TARGET). This project aims to promote inclusive education through the following major tasks:
- Monitor and review disability mapping conducted at districts.
- Oversee and guide inclusive education training and awareness-raising for teachers
- Provide Inclusive education training and awareness-raising for teachers
- Disability Inclusion Training (Orientation) to SMC/PTSAs to develop SIP-inclusive education and outreach to CWDs
- Capacity building training and workshops to the key stakeholders from the multi-sector Bureaues, College of Teacher Education, IERC, and woreda offices
- Strengthening of Inclusive Education Resource Center (IREC) in the target district
- Coordinate, monitor, and ensure the quality of sign language training for participants, including parents of hearing-impaired children, resource center coordinators, and teachers from target schools, to enhance communication skills.
- Implement quarterly program evaluations and provide supportive supervision by Inclusive Education Experts in collaboration with IHO.
- Organize timely monthly, quarterly, and annual activity reports.
Job Summary:
The Inclusive Education Project program officer will report to the IHO Inclusive Education program coordinator and is responsible for promoting, implementing, and monitoring inclusive education activities of the TARGET project woredas. The Inclusive Education officer will be based at the woreda level at the imagine1day project area office, as assigned, in order to provide support for the project goals achievement, with a particular focus on ensuring that all capacity-building activities are inclusive education programmers. Representing IHO, the Inclusive Education program officer will coordinate the selected schools with closely imagine1day, zonal, and woreda staff & expertise and directly subjected to the IHO inclusive education program coordinator. The Project Officer will provide professional and technical support to the selected schools in the appointed woreda. He/she will develop and deliver capacity-building training on inclusive education for the school community including the Woreda Education Offices, school communities, and organizations of persons with disabilities, and actively promote at regional and community levels the inclusion of children with disabilities in mainstream schools.
Key responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the selected schools to strengthen capacity-building interventions by the delivery team at selected woreda namely East Wollega (Leka Dulecha woreda & Wayu Tuka woreda), West Wollega (Lalo Asabi, Nedjo, Gimbi & Boji Birmaji woreda) and North Shewa( Kuyu woreda).
- Coordinate and jointly devise the inclusive education implementation approach with the selected schools at selected woredas ;
- Support the identification and assessment of school-age children with disabilities at target schools and their catchment areas;
- Organize community mobilization activities to raise awareness on the right to education of children with disabilities;
- Consult with the Woreda Education office, school directors, and communities
- Partner with other stakeholders for the establishment of Inclusive Education Resource Centers (IERCs) and the provision of inclusive education resource center materials at target schools;
- Devise a referral system for specialized service provision for students with disabilities at target schools in the woreda;
- Work with the selected school, and volunteers to ensure data collection, analysis, and dissemination of basic education services for conflict-affected out-of-school children in East Wollega, West Wollega, and North Shewa Zones of Oromia Region.
- Promote and support inclusive education practice at all levels in the selected woreda
- Organize child profile, Prepare regular and timely updates and reports, including success stories, and best practices;
- Undertake such other tasks as may be assigned by imagine1day Inclusive Education Advisor, IHO inclusive education Program coordinator.
About You
- Master’s/ Bachelor’s degree in inclusive/special needs education, education, or related social science discipline;
- Minimum 3 years for MA/MSc or 5 years for BA/BSc experience working in the field of education, preferably on inclusive education;
- Experience working with local and/or international NGOs in implementing education projects;
- Previous experience working as an educator in the field of inclusive education desirable;
- Competence in the use of computer applications;
- Fluency in English, Afan Oromo, and Amharic or Ethiopian Sign Language, knowledge of other Ethiopian languages desirable.
