Job Description


LonAdd HR Consultancy Plc (www.lonadd.com) is a Recruitment & Outsourcing Company based in Addis Abeba, Ethiopia, with branch offices in Dukem and Hawassa. We are looking to recruit a qualified candidate on Behalf of Our Client.

Job Purpose

The HR and Safeguarding Officer is responsible for managing all human resources functions and ensuring the safeguarding of staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries, particularly children and vulnerable adults. The officer will ensure compliance with FAWE’s HR policies, labor laws, and safeguarding standards, promoting a safe and respectful workplace culture. They will lead efforts to develop and implement safeguarding policies, ensuring all programs and activities prioritize the safety and protection of beneficiaries.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Human Resources Management
  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, and orientation of new staff in alignment with FAWE’s policies and procedures.
  • Maintain and update employee records, including contracts, leave balances, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure compliance with Ethiopian labor laws and FAWE’s HR policies, providing guidance and support to management on HR-related issues.
  • Facilitate employee performance management processes, including setting objectives, conducting performance appraisals, and developing individual development plans.
  • Address employee grievances and manage disciplinary actions as needed in a fair and confidential manner.
  • Coordinate staff capacity-building activities, including training and development programs.
  1. Safeguarding and Child Protection
  • Lead the development, implementation, and regular review of safeguarding and child protection policies, ensuring alignment with FAWE’s organizational values and international best practices.
  • Train staff, volunteers, and partners on safeguarding principles, codes of conduct, and child protection policies to ensure awareness and adherence.
  • Act as the primary contact for safeguarding concerns, managing reports, investigations, and resolutions of any safeguarding incidents.
  • Ensure safe recruitment practices, including background checks and verification of references, to safeguard vulnerable populations.
  • Collaborate with program teams to assess safeguarding risks and ensure protective measures are embedded into all activities, particularly those involving children and vulnerable groups.
  1. Employee Well-being and Safety
  • Develop and implement workplace wellness initiatives to promote staff well-being and work-life balance.
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and harassment-free work environment by promoting gender equity, diversity, and mutual respect.
  • Oversee occupational health and safety procedures, including first aid, risk assessments, and compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Act as a point of contact for mental health and well-being concerns, providing appropriate referrals to counseling or other support services.
  1. Policy Development and Compliance
  • Develop and update HR policies, employee handbooks, and safeguarding protocols in consultation with senior management.
  • Ensure FAWE Ethiopia’s policies comply with local labor laws and reflect the organization’s commitment to gender equality and diversity.
  • Support FAWE’s adherence to donor safeguarding requirements and contractual obligations related to HR management.
  1. Reporting and Documentation
  • Maintain comprehensive HR and safeguarding records, ensuring confidentiality and secure handling of sensitive information.
  • Prepare periodic reports on HR activities, safeguarding incidents, and staff well-being for senior management and FAWE’s regional office.
  • Provide reports to external stakeholders (e.g., donors, government agencies) on safeguarding compliance and HR-related matters as required.

 

About You

Qualifications and Experience

  • Education:
    Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management, Social Work, Law, or a related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).
  • Experience:
    • At least 3-5 years of experience in HR management, safeguarding, or child protection within the nonprofit, education, or development sector.
    • Proven experience in handling safeguarding issues, including managing cases of abuse or exploitation.
    • Familiarity with Ethiopian labor laws, employment regulations, and international safeguarding standards.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong understanding of HR functions such as recruitment, performance management, employee relations, and training.
    • Expertise in safeguarding and child protection policies, with the ability to manage sensitive issues discreetly and professionally.
    • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills.
    • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines.
    • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HR software tools.
  • Language Requirements:
    Fluency in English and Amharic (both written and spoken) is essential.

Working Conditions
