Job Description


Islamic Relief is an international relief and development charity founded in 1984 with its headquarters in Birmingham, UK. As well as responding to disasters and emergencies, Islamic Relief promotes sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities – regardless of race, religion or gender. The office officially started operation in Ethiopia in 2004. Islamic Relief Ethiopia (IRE) is operational in the Somali Regional State with a base office in Jigjiga, Hargelle, Elkere, Bare, GG and Dekasuftu, Afar Regional State; Ewa, Awra and Gulina; Oromia regional State, West Harergeye, Chiro and Meayso Woredas and an additional operational office in Addis Ababa.

Job Summary:

The Human Resources (HR) Assistant is responsible for performing a variety of technical and administrative support responsibilities relating to personnel functions including in the areas of employment recruitment and record management. She provides information and assistance to the HR Unit and performs a variety of tasks requiring specialized knowledge related to area of assignment.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting with day to day operations of the HR functions and duties, providing clerical and administrative support to the HR team.
  • Assists in reviewing departmental recruitment requests to ensure all recruitment are conducted against the organization’s staff establishment.
  • Collect the applicant’s document and prepares the long list and communication with selected candidates for schedules assessment.
  • Provides general clerical and administrative support to the Human Resources Unit; prepares all documentation relating to appointments including offer and termination letters, reports pertaining to human resource management.
  • Maintains an up to date and accurate personnel records (both Hard and Soft copies) and with timely data entry and document control for employee matters and personnel files.
  • Implements HR policies, practices, and procedures, and ensures compliance with legal laws and/or regulations as regards recruitment.
  • Assists in the administration of all personnel policies and procedures.
  • Performs any other duties as required by management from time to time.

Job Requirements

Personal Specification

Formal Education/Qualification : · Bachelor’s degree in Management or related fields.

Work Experience : · A minimum of two years relevant experiences preferably in the INGO sector.

Skills and Competences

  • Competence in MS Office
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – builds good relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Able to plan, prioritize and organize self and others
  • Ability to manage a complex and demanding workload with flexible behavior
  • Sympathy with the aims and objectives of IRE
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and action
  • Very good written and spoken skill both in English and Amharic language
