General Description of the Country Programme

GOAL Ethiopia has been operational for over 30 years, the current country program spans the humanitarian – development nexus. GOAL Ethiopia’s humanitarian response is centered on nutrition, WASH, livelihoods, and protection interventions across Somali, Oromia, Afar, South and Gambella Regions of the country. The recovery and development program focus on livelihoods, health, WASH, and nutrition in the Oromia region with an increasing focus on more sustainable and scalable. Initiatives with the permanent players i.e., Government, civil society and communities and the private sector. GOAL’s the WASH program focuses on ensuring that communities and households have access to water filter products, and use, appropriate, and safe water filter system, acceptable improved water filter product market system.

Description of the HHWT Project:

GOAL Ethiopia has been conducting a research on the Market Systems Development (MSD) approach, to guide the team throughout the primary data collection process and to support data documentation and analysis of the water filter market system and associated tools. The PCAD tools provide the framework, and it is the integrated analysis of these assessments that builds a meaningful understanding of access to water filter system, the challenges, and opportunities, and provides the information needed to map the system and identify a portfolio of interventions based on the opportunities to engage and create sustainable change.

Description of the Role:

The HHWT Marketing Facilitator will work through existing private sector players at national and regional, Zonal and Woreda level, to source affordable HHWT products, to market them through existing wholesalers and retailers. If demand can be demonstrated, work with national manufacturers/ importers to stimulate the production of affordable cost of water filter products in Ethiopia. The post holder will need a strong background in private sector marketing, supply chains and distribution systems.

Key responsibilities:

1.       Research alternative affordable water filter apparatus and spare parts

2.       Work with existing wholesalers and retailors to market affordable water filter products and spare parts.

3.       Discover Source of affordable HHWT products in the ethiopia market.

4.       Work with a national water filter and treatment sector wholesalers and retailers to market new affordable HHWT products and create demand through marketing strategies.

5.       If demand can be stimulated, work with existing manufacturers/Importers to stimulate the production of affordable water filter products and their supply chain and distribution systems.

6.       Work with the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) team to develop MEAL plans which include monitoring key performance indicators, measuring change in asystem, accountability mechanisms and learning (both what is working and what is not) and documents.

·         BA in marketing, business or related field.

·         At least five years previous experience in private sector business and/or marketing

·         Can demonstrate program management in the development and implementation of successful marketing strategies.

·         A good understanding of the costs of doing business in Ethiopia including taxation and transport.

·         Previous experience in working with Micro Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME).

·         Able to work independently and act on own initiative.

Desirable qualities, skills and competences:

·         Good communication, facilitation, and negotiation skills

·         Good computer skills with ability to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook.

·         Good English language skills.

·         Previous NGO experience is preferable.
