About the Job

Program Background

PETCO Ethiopia is implementing 5-year of consortium project joint with Center of Accelerated Women Economic Empowerment (CAWEE) and Ethiopia[Ma1]  Enterprise Development. The program is funded by the MasterCard Foundation contract to Enable Young Women and Men to Find Dignified and Fulfilling Work in Manufacturing in Ethiopia by capacitating existing SMEs. The program aims to:

  • Build SME capacity to sustainably create new jobs and improve existing ones through offering tailored business capacity building and mentorship; enhancing access to markets and raw materials flow; and improving SMEs’ human resources capacity to create safe and inclusive working conditions for young women and men.
  • Improve Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) offerings to better prepare women and youth to enter the workforce (facilitate school-to-work transition).
  • Facilitate a robust financial ecosystem to help SMEs access tailored financial services that allow them to grow and increase employment opportunities for young women in particular, and to invest in infrastructure that can improve young women and men’s working conditions.
  • Strengthen the enablers (ecosystem) to foster private sector engagement, stakeholder coordination synergy, and policy development for sustainable and scalable job growth.

Job Description and Key Responsibilities:

  • Organize, update and analyze data of SMEs working in  Hand craft, leather and Solid waste SMEs subsectors.
  • Facilitating Consortiums  work to host events that generate interest in investing in local Hand craft, leather and Solid waste SMEs and  manufacturing industries;
  • Facilitating industrial extension program in Ethiopia’s enterprise development and selected TVET institutions ;
  • Coordinating and facilitating trainings that build the capacity of the federal, city administration and regional governments on market opportunities for SMEs
  • Draw  best practices in Hand craft, leather and solid waste SMEs and  manufacturing industry
  • Provide technical skills training in Ethiopian enterprise development and selected TEVTs on  job creation effectiveness;
  • Facilitate Development of new product samples in Hand craft, leather and solid waste in coordination with stakeholders;
  • Facilitating consortium’s  work to host events that generate interest in investing in local Hand craft, leather and solid waste SMEs;
  • Facilitate the Development, evaluation, and validation of  design, process, packaging, and standards for specific Hand craft, leather and solid waste products.
  • Prepare a project profile, business plan and machine specification to enhance young citizens engage in the Hand craft, leather and solid waste sector.
  • Engage  with stakeholders to conduct feasibility studies as and  promote  Hand craft, leather and solid waste;
  • Monitor and ensure that established and newly established enterprises receive gap-based support.
  • Provides monitoring support to develop a strategy with key stakeholders to effective industrial extension in Hand craft, leather and solid waste.
  • Coordinate the planning of strategies for enterprises to connect with each other and with high manufacturing industries through marketing and technology; and monitoring their performance.
  • Ensures trainees receive technical training based on the skills gap provided and their competency is confirmed through COC, supervises, monitors and evaluates their performance.

About You

Qualifications:

  • BA Degree in  handicraft, Lather and garment, Chemical engineering, or related fields
  • 7 years of relevant work experience
  •  Experience with industrial follow-up and support in institute or SMEs
  • Experience with Circularity or solid waste management
  • Relevant work experience with managing and coordinating projects
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and documentation.
  •  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English (both written and spoken); knowledge of Amharic or other local languages is desirable.
  • Willingness to travel within Ethiopia as required for project activities.
  • Demonstrated strength and experience in writing technical reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a team.
