Job Description


Founded in 1899, NABU (The Nature And Biodiversity Conservation Union) is the oldest and largest environment association in Germany. It encompasses more than 940,000 members and supporters, who commit themselves to the conservation of threatened habitats, flora, and fauna, to climate protection and energy policy. Since 2006 NABU has been working in Ethiopia towards conserving natural habitats, climate adaptation and mitigation and empowering people to conserve and manage their local resources. Jointly with the Ethiopian government and local communities, NABU turned two regions into UNESCO biosphere reserves.

Summary

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Gender and Youth Officer for the aforementioned project. The project aims to promote women empowerment and youth engagement strategies, nature-based livelihoods, and capacity development within the community.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement gender-responsive activities and initiatives to empower women and youth in the community.
  • Engage with local stakeholders to promote gender equality and youth participation in decision-making processes.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions on nature-based livelihoods and sustainable development.
  • Collaborate with project partners to develop and implement capacity-building activities for women and youth in the community.
  • Engage in monitoring and reporting
  • Together with other team members identify gaps, consolidate best practices in the field, and share lessons in youth women empowerment

Location: Mettu town, Illu Ababora zone, Oromia

Duration: ASAP to 31/05/2027

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in gender studies, social sciences, environmental studies, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of experience working in gender and youth development projects.
  • Strong understanding of gender and youth issues in the context of sustainable development.
  • Experience in designing and implementing capacity-building activities for youth and women.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Sensitivity to different aspects of diversity (cultural, religious, disability), firm belief in teamwork, and and sensitivity to HIV/AIDS
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Fluency in English and Afan Oromo.
