Job Description


Job Summary

The Gender and Safeguarding Officer will work closely with the programme team and lead the gender and safeguarding related activities

The Gender and Safeguarding Officer will have overall accountability to ensure strategic development, delivery of program/project results, and partner’s satisfaction for the integration of gender and safeguarding in the agricultural and livelihoods development; and climate change mitigation and adaptation programs.

The Job Holder will have primary role to ensure that the Programmes integrates gender equality and safeguarding principles into all the activities.

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Ensuring that mainstreaming gender is included throughout the implementation of Agriculture and Livelihoods; and climate change mitigation and adaptation programs
  • Review the gender sensitive analysis conducted previously and the gender-mainstreaming plans, and monitoring compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Support the development and implementation of gender-responsive programming initiatives, including targeted interventions to address the needs and interests of women, young people, and marginalized groups.
  • Responsible for designing, collecting, processing, analysing gender within the Programmes
  • Work along with gender and safeguarding focal persons at the field level and design reporting system
  • Produce Gender and safeguarding communication materials in local language to promote social and behavioural change and strengthen community participation
  • Support the organization and facilitation of training sessions, workshops, and community dialogues on gender equality, gender-based violence prevention, and safeguarding practices, ensuring active participation and engagement of project beneficiaries.
  • Provides technical advice and guidance, ensuring an intersectional approach and up-to-date safeguarding guidance across the Vita Programmes.
  • Identifies and mitigates risks and ensures the protection, security and safety of all personnel, partners and beneficiaries.

Develops the appropriate mechanisms for periodic Gender and safeguarding reviews and adaptations.

Job Requirement

Education, Knowledge & Professional Experience

  • Bachelor of Arts or Master of Arts Degree in social sciences, Gender and Development studies, social work, humanities, or another related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of demonstrable experience in the technical area of gender mainstreaming, community development and safeguarding
  • Familiarity with safeguarding standards and principles, international protection frameworks and mechanisms on safeguarding.
  • Strong analytical skills related to feedback mechanisms, safeguarding, protection, and similar matters.
  • Good communication and report writing skills is crucial.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to develop positive relationships with country and Dublin team members at multiple levels in the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively liaise with all project partners and external stakeholders involved in Vita’s programmes

Duty Station: Vita Country Office in Addis Ababa with frequent field travel as needed
