Job Description


Background

Ethiopian Media Women Association (EMWA) is a non-partisan, non-for-profit association established in 1999. EMWA has been working towards the realization of its objectives by implementing various projects and programs. In its objectives, EMWA has been working on raising the skills of media professionals and practitioners, enabling women to own and become beneficiaries of alternative community media, and creating gender- sensitive media in Ethiopia. EMWA strives to improve women’s access and participation in the media and improve the image of women in content production, taking the media as a target to ensure equal representation of women in news making.

To heighten its objectives, EMWA would like to develop the ‘’Directory of Women Media Information Sources and Website Database’’ project.

The overall objective of the Directory of Women Professionals project is to identify women experts in different sectors of work and register them with contact details, aiming to make them available for journalists, media organizations, and other stakeholders as information sources.

EMWA desires to hire a project-based officer.

The project-based officer will be fully responsible for running this project and facilitating easy implementation, follow-up, and reporting of the project.

Job Description

The Roster Project Officer will execute the following major activities in consultation with EMWA:-

  • Coordinate and implement all the project’s activities,
  • Organize a consultative meeting,
  • Recruiting data collectors and give orientation,
  • Dispatch data collectors and follow their performance,
  • Write and organize the stories in English,
  • Verify and proofread the draft document,
  • Organize a launching and distribution workshop,
  • Publish the directory,
  • Supervise the secretary of the project,
  • Involve in developing a detailed budget of the project, and the allocated funding is appropriately utilized.
  • Prepare  the project progress regularly, and share the report to EMWA staff,
  • Prepare a project report as required by the funding agency, and submit in due time,
  • Involve in monitoring, analyzing, and evaluating the project to ensure achievement of the project objectives.
  • Undertake additional tasks assigned by the EMWA administration.

Job Requirements

Educational qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor degree in journalism, statistics, gender, project management or other social sciences

Work experience

  • At least two years of relevant working experience in research and data analysis, project management or other similar positions,
  • Experience working in civil society organizations is an added advantage.

Skills

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills,
  • Highly developed communication, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills,
  • Language skills: Effective communication skills in Amharic and English (written and oral) with strong presentation and writing skills;
  • Excellent knowledge of using publisher and other publishing apps,
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills relevant to dealing with roster allocation scenarios,
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuous change and quality of being finished,
  • Numerical and planning skills relevant to roster coordination and management,
  • Sound negotiation and influencing skills,
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office.
