sequa gGmbH is a globally operating non-profit development organisation. Since 1991 sequa has carried out programmes and projects of international cooperation in close collaboration with the German private sector. sequa offers know-how and long-term experience in capacity development for chambers and associations (BMOs), vocational education and training, private sector development and trade promotion. The organisation is based in Bonn, Germany. sequa employs more than 100 persons (2023) and reported a turnover of EUR 71 m in 2022.

The Project

Within the GIZ Programme Special Initiative “Decent Work for a Just Transition”, sequa implements the “SME Grant Scheme targeting growth orientated SMEs” project in Ethiopia. With this, sequa aims to facilitate business growth and job creation of Ethiopian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) by increasing their competitiveness and productivity so that their products and services will satisfy the demand on local and international markets. A specific focus will be provided for women-owned SMEs, job-creation, and employability training for women.

Benefiting companies receive flexible and demand-oriented funding (management consulting, technical training, financial competence / business plan development, qualification, applied research activities, etc.). A special focus will be on advisory services to improve access to finance. The grant scheme is expected to contribute to a change management and business growth of SMEs.

Nophicho Manufacturing PLC was established in 2011 in SNNPR, Dilla, and produces a wide range of casual and traditional clothes with its own design. The company has four retail shops targeting end customers in Gedio zone and neighboring regions and one retail shop in Addis Ababa.

Nophicho Manufacturing PLC uses imported acrylic and silk yarn; and weaving operation is outsourced to local weavers. The company is equipped with sewing machines and Tajima embroidery machine, and supplies value adding products to its customers in the local market. The company gives special focus on product quality and meeting customer satisfaction.

The company is under procurement process of digital printing machine to provide value adding service products including t-shirt and shirt. The objective of the assignment is to study market potential assessment on printing services for garment products in the local market.

Your Tasks / Responsibilities

• Conduct market assessment (demand vs supply) and determine market volume for printed garment items in local market,
• Identify and recommend potential target market for printed products,
• Identify list of garment products with high market potential for printing service in local market,
• Identify and propose types of print widely demanded for garment products in local market,
• Assess the availability for digital printing raw materials and prepare list of suppliers in the local market,
• Based on the activities described above, prepare a report with the market assessment results and recommendations.

Assignment Period: 14.08.2023 – 31.10.2023

Working time scope: 15 working days, potentially extendable based on project needs

Job Requirements

Your Qualification / Skills

• Degree in marketing, textile, garment engineering/ technology or any other related fields,
• Intensive knowledge in conducting market study,
• In-depth understanding of marketing principles,
• Ability to think strategically and analytically,
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

Your Working Experience

• 10+ years of experience in conducting marketing research,
• Proven experience in conducting market study on textile/garment products, preferably in digital garment printing,
• Proven experience in working with garment companies.
