Job Description


SAMANU represents group of companies which are engaged in the business of manufacturing consumer-focused products in Ethiopia. Today these companies manufacture well-known brands for the Ethiopian market including Tena Oil, 555 and Aura Soap, Chef Luca Pasta and AquaSafe Mineral water from their facilities.

Purpose of the Position

As a key member of the company’s management team, the Finance Business Partner will report to the Finance Manager. The role will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all financial-related activities of the company. This will include direct responsibility for accounting, finance, forecasting, legal, property management, deal analysis and negotiations, and partnership compliance, and private and institutional financing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Facilitate the creation of the company’s strategic planning and budget models.

  • Provides leadership in the development of the continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  • Ensure the credibility of financial reports by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial trends, and forecasts.
  • Direct and oversee all aspects of the Finance & Accounting functions of the organization.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/ strategies, and regulatory action.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior executives to identify their needs and seek a full range of business solutions.
  • Provide executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities.
  • Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets and consolidation, and reporting to the Company.
  • Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Maintain an up-to-date awareness of fiscal, economic, governmental, and other relevant market drivers and developments.

Accounting and Reporting

  • Deliver the monthly financial report for the management including budget/forecast actual variance analysis and recommendations
  • Ensure month-end reports are delivered accurately and on time, with explanations of key trends and variances.
  • Process adherence on NAV system related to General ledger, accruals, and related reconciliations
  • Ensure reliability and integrity of accounting records (accounts and cost centers, capex vs opex)

Plan, monitor, and control all operational financial activities associated with the company (Accounting, Tax, Cash & Risk management) – The Finance Business partner will work closely with the Treasury and tax team to

  • Coordinate yearly financial audits and work with the Tax team related to any tax audit.
  • Ensure all relevant policies from Corporate are effectively implemented and adhered to within the finance function.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance on all matters associated with financial activities.
  • Maintain effective risk management practices, insurance, and audit procedures.
  • Maintain optimal Cash management practices.
  • Any other tasks as may be required from time to time.

Audits & Due Diligence

  • In coordination with Finance teams, apply and put in place recommendations made by internal audit (or financial auditors) to guarantee compliance with financial standards and corporate governance.
  • Coordinate yearly financial audits and work with the Tax team related to any tax audit.

Effectively lead and develop people in areas of responsibility.

  • Coaches and guides direct reports.
  • Conducts performance appraisal process.
  • Ensures training needs are met and personal development plans are established and monitored.
  • Create a high-performing Finance team through leadership and individual/team development plans.

Requirements

Functional competency : Functional knowledge of manufacturing finance, Inventory & cost accounting is a must with a minimum of 7 years of experience with an FMCG background. There should be 2 to 3 years of experience in a supervisory role and handling a team of 4 to 8 people.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • MSc in Finance and Accounting/MBA /Part Qualified Accountant
  • Minimum 7 years of financial, commercial & market experience in accounting/analytical roles with FMCG sector experience and experience of managing teams.

Must have experience of:

  • Business Performance evaluation
  • Budgeting & Forecasting for multiple business units
  • Good internal/external communicator being able to build strong relationships, influencing and presenting at a senior level Desirable
  • Working experience in Ethiopia
  • Knowledge of local market environment & trends, government policy, and regulatory requirements
